Mom, Can You Hear Me?
Craig McMahon's new Documentary from the series, Life to Afterlife
Jeff and Lynn Hollahan sit down with Craig McMahon
LIFE TO AFTERLIFE: Mom, Can You Hear Me?
In my role as a documentary filmmaker, I sat down with seventeen parents who have lost a child. These parents are from the support group "Helping Parents Heal." I myself have lived through similarly tragic events since I lost one brother to a car accident and a second brother to suicide. I watched how my parents dealt with these devastating blows to my family. Out of this heartbreak, my mother opened a hypnosis institute in Chicago to help others during periods of grief. I grappled with the hole these tragedies left in my family’s heart and was determined to understand why my family had to go through such pain and hardship.
In this documentary, these parents speak in chronological order to discuss what life was like before the passing of their child, what transpired during those life-changing days, as well as their perspectives on anger, joy, happiness, guilt, marriage, culture, and religion. The story then explores an all-encompassing central question: "Where is my child now?"
In LIFE TO AFTERLIFE: Mom, Can You Hear Me?, you will appreciate the amazing shift in perspective that develops from a parent creating a connection with their lost child. Having an open dialogue about these events sheds light and understanding on several complex and difficult questions, but also gives license to a more uplifting and purposeful life. The documentary will be available on Amazon in mid-November.

Dr. Mark Pitstick and his book 'SoulProof'
Evolved Souls Don’t Need Long Earthly Lives
November 2019
by Mark Pitstick, MA, DC
To all parents, I am very sorry about the physical death of your child. However, I am glad you are open to learning how to heal and transform. Six key understandings to making that shift are:
1. Your child is alive and well in another phase of forever.
2. Only his physical body died. Everything else continues eternally: all the love, light, energy, humor, personality, memory, energetic and subtle bodies, and much more. Really knowing this allows you to journey from seeing yourself as a bereaved to a shining light parent.
3. She is happy, peaceful, and enthusiastic – and wants you to be that way now.
4. You will see her when you pass on and can enjoy relationships with her now.
5. You can choose to transmute your grief into a spiritually transformative experience that powerfully improves your life and blesses others.
6. You can heal and increase the gifts from his life by lovingly serving others
Many parents have realized this great news and are living happy and fulfilling lives again. You can do the same. It’s not easy and doesn’t happen overnight, but it is possible with small steps day by day. Here are five action steps . . .
- Attend local and online Helping Parents Heal (HPH) meetings
- Call The Caring Listeners to talk at no charge.
- Read relevant Foundational Articles for Healing & Transforming on SoulProof.com and take action steps.
- Listen to my free Radio Shows and our answers to life’s toughest questions including why children die.
- Lean on others then later, when you are doing better, pay it forward
Q: My 26-year-old son ended his life on January 1st, 2018. I wanted to tell you how much your Soul Proof website helped me. Your articles about life after death, children changing worlds, suicide, heaven and hell, and God gave me huge insights.
After my son’s death, I went to church and heard that those who die by suicide go to hell. My minister said my son made his choice to die that way and must pay for it. He inferred that my son couldn’t be with God. Those comments made me believe that this life is hell, and wonder what kind of God would act that way.
After reading your articles and having some signs from my son, I have more hope. Thank you again and God bless.
A: I look forward to the day when ministers quit repeating horrible and inaccurate Dark Ages teachings about a loving Creator. Have you considered finding another church?
Over the years, I’ve received many similar letters from bereaved parents whose churches failed them during their darkest hour. Some ministers say ‘It was God’s will’ as if that helps at all. Others say ‘God wanted to be with your little one.’ That’s fairly bizarre and patently cruel. The Ground of All Being has received much bad and undeserved press over the years.
Some of those ministers were perhaps well-meaning, but just passing on what they had been taught. Others probably felt inadequate and didn’t know what to say. Most of them likely don’t know about the wealth of clinical evidence that shows we each are one with the One right now and always. Congratulations on listening to your heart and finding sensible, evidence-based answers for yourself.
As a youth, I struggled with fundamentalist teachings that focused much more on fear than love. In the years since I have found more open-minded and open-hearted places of worship. HPH wisely observes the axiom to avoid talking about politics and religion. Email me at mark@soulproof.com if you would like a list of churches and spiritual centers I’ve found to be best.
PS – I suggest altering your language a bit: your son didn’t end his life, just this earthly experience. Saying ‘my son ended this phase of his life’ may initially sound more cumbersome but is much more reassuring and accurate.
Hugs, love, and blessings,
Mark

Fellowship and Coincidences
Quinton and his Grandfather, Ed Cano
Sixteen Years Later – A Sign from Ed
We had a nice Saturday, beginning with some painting around the house and then sitting outside while enjoying a Jack Reacher novel. By 4:00, we were hungry for dinner and Kristine wanted to try a Chinese food restaurant that was new to us. It was located in a tired, old strip mall, but the restaurant itself was quite nice. We were the first in for dinner; we beat the rush. They had just finished mopping the floors when we arrived. All the lights were working and not one was flickering, not even once.
Something about the location made me think about my in-laws, Ed and Nellie Cano. Nellie now lives with us, just as Quinton planned when Ed transitioned sixteen years ago. Ed and Nellie used to own and operate a thrift store in a shopping center similar to where we were having our dinner. Ed was always a hustler, making moves and providing for his family. The thrift shop was no different, as together they made it beautiful. Nellie was the driving force for this store and she made sure everything for sale had been washed and pressed. It was quite a venture and business was brisk because the store was well organized and clean. Kristine and I shared our memories with each other, both of us remembering Ed fondly.
Before the meal came, I had a flash memory of a conversation that Edgar and I had, discussing when I first earned a real estate license in the mid-1990s. He was excited for me and he was excited for us. As we spoke, he shared plans to buy, update and flip homes. He saw something in me that I am just beginning to understand, twenty-five years later. That was Ed. He loved and encouraged me like no other.
Dinner arrived. I had ordered my old standby; shrimp Egg Foo Young and Kristine had Kung Pao Beef. It was incredible; the flavors were spectacular and the hot mustard was just perfect, as it took our breath away. I remembered that Ed and Nellie enjoyed Chinese food as well, and then asked Kristine what was Ed’s favorite Chinese food meal. She replied Pork Chow Mein and as she spoke, a light between us and the entrance, within my sightline, flickered. I immediately told Kristine, telling her Ed had just sent us a sign. No lights flickered the rest of our time there. It has been sixteen years since Ed transitioned, but just a blink of an eye for him. We were thinking of him fondly, with love and reverence, and he let us know he was there.
Needless to say, Ed’s sign touched me deeply. You see, I just don’t get too many signs anymore, certainly not from Ed. Naturally, it begs more than one question, why don’t I receive many signs and why now? The answers really aren’t so difficult. For whatever reason, I haven’t been taking the time to quiet my mind – period. And why was I able to receive a sign from Ed now? Over the past several months, or perhaps a year, I have slowly been trying to be less busy and go inward. Very recently I have begun to meditate again with a regular meditation practice. As odd as this will sound, being consistent with a basic spiritual practice is hard for me. Truth be told, it seems that it is now or never, or try again next lifetime. I have decided to get serious in my quiet, solitary walk, and Ed, therefore, showed up. More importantly, I was thinking of Ed and discussing him with Kristine with love. With those three catalysts in hand, of course, Ed showed up and of course, I was able to recognize his sign.
At the same time, there are no rules, no judgment, and no expectations. These “no’s” are the hardest of all for us, aren’t they? We do something and expect immediate feedback; a response or something magical, don’t we? However, the true gifts come from not expecting anything and then being present to receive.
Thank you, Ed. I miss you.
I wish you all the best and feel free to contact me if you have questions. Dialogue is good. Each of us is both teacher and student.
God Bless and Namaste, Ernie-Quinton’s Dad

Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief by David Kessler
David Kessler, David's newest book
From Amazon: In this groundbreaking new work, David Kessler—an expert on grief and the coauthor with Elisabeth Kübler-Ross of the iconic On Grief and Grieving—journeys beyond the classic five stages to discover a sixth stage: meaning.
I highly recommend reading David Kessler's latest book Finding Meaning: The Sixth Stage of Grief. David is a grief expert, author and a member of Helping Parents Heal after the sudden passing of his son three years ago. David writes that "meaning comes through finding a way to sustain your love for the person after their death while you're moving forward with your life. Loss is simply what happens to you in life. Meaning is what you make happen."
All of us at Helping Parents Heal are looking forward to meeting David when he gives a keynote speech at our conference in April.

New Leader! Sue Burns of Helping Parents Heal - Twin Cities
Sue Law Burns and her daughter, Lauren
Please join me in welcoming our newest member of Helping Parents Heal - Twin Cities; Sue Law Burns! She will be joining Lynn Argetsinger and Pamela DeMars.
More about Sue:
Hello Minnesota parents. My name is Sue Burns and my beautiful daughter Lauren Wiley transitioned unexpectedly on New Years' Eve morning in 2015 from an aortic aneurysm. We learned later that Lauren, forever 26, actually died from a super rare and undetected disease - Takayasu's arteritis. Apparently, it was in her body for years and never detected because she didn't have symptoms. She lived a very full, happy, adventurous life. We are continuously amazed by her ever-present sparkle, sense of humor and how she is still helping her friends and family regularly. Lauren continues to finds ways to let us know she is right here with us.

Marta and her son Jake, Anne and her son Kenny
Please join me in welcoming Marta Carlson Ferreira and Anne Kelley Silanskas, who will be taking over for Susan Lynch in Southern New Hampshire.
About Marta:
My name is Marta Ferreira and my son Jake Nawn transitioned on November 12, 2015. He was a student at Plymouth State University and was missing for five days when he was found in the Pemigewasset River. We had no idea he had any mental health issues and neither did any of his many many friends. He was creative, a poet, musician and friend to all. He touched so very many lives. He has made his presence known on many occasions, but I am still waiting for that dream visitation. (Please universe!)
About Anne:
My husband and I lost our only child, Kenny suddenly, on 10/18/16 at the age of 37. He was the love of our lives and we have gone through an unimaginable (not to you I'm' sure) painful journey of grief since then. Kenny was a prodigy. A talented musician and writer, as well as a software engineer who worked all around the world. He was also my best friend. His loss has been immeasurable to us. Helping Parents Heal has helped me so much through my grieving process with the spirituality surrounding it. It was my favorite group and I looked forward to going every month. When Susan Lynch decided not to continue with it, Marta and I talked and decided we couldn't just let it go, and we would very much like to continue with it.
Our meetings will be in the Nashua Public Library, 2 Court St, Nashua, NH 03060, the last Thursday of every month beginning in January.

Helping Fathers Heal with Kat Baillee
Devon Hollahan and Kat Baillee
HELPING FATHERS HEAL ONLINE - What a fantastic meeting on October 16th!
Kat Baillie, our UK-based guest medium, got up at 2 a.m. and then spent three hours with our group of fathers to make sure they all had an opportunity to connect with their children.
I was extremely impressed with the very accurate, evidential information that came across. Kat's generosity provided strong validation to all of us that our children were present and I noticed a number of men actually smiling during their readings, including some skeptics!
Thanks again for going above and beyond for us, Kat...
-Written by our Helping Fathers Heal Affiliate Leader, Mike Edwards
Jeff Hollahan's Validation from his son Devon through Kat:
On October 16, Medium Kat Baillie joined the Helping Father’s Heal Zoom meeting to provide readings for the fathers in attendance. It was 2 AM in the UK when she began the meeting and roughly 5:30 AM when she finished her last reading. What an amazing gift from a generous and talented “Lightworker”!
I first heard of Kat from my wife, Lynn, after Kat provided a blind reading for her a couple of years ago. In the HFH reading, the first thing Kat brought up was that she remembered providing the reading for Lynn and also remembered the ties our son, Devon, had to Prague, Frankfurt and the river at the time of his passing. Now, I figure Kat has provided hundreds of readings in the time since she read for Lynn, so the fact she remembered those details was very impressive! She also said that since she has already provided the details about Devon in Europe, she can’t just give me the same information. It needed to be “fresh”.
And it was! Throughout the reading, Kat was able to bring through very specific and recent experiences that we had. It is certain that Devon accompanied us on a recent trip back east. He communicated through Kat that we had been close to a fast-moving river and had stood in the spray. In fact, within the previous two weeks, we had been to Quebec City and had stood in the spray of Montmorency Falls near the city. He described the weather as chilly and that one of us had worn multiple layers and looked like “The Michelin Man”. Well, that would have been Lynn, but I would have never said that to her! Devon could, and still does, get away with stuff that I never could!
Kat mentioned a number of other recent occurrences (all accurate), but the one that was most touching was the last. She mentioned that every day, someone kisses Devon’s picture. Well, again, that would be Lynn and every day she does, in fact, walk down the hallway outside our bedroom, touch her fingertips to her lips and then to one of the pictures of Devon that we have lining the wall! How much more evidence do we need to be assured, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that our children are with us all the time? Kat nailed it!
When the Helping Fathers Heal meeting started that night, it was not my intention to receive the gift of a reading since we hear from Devon so often, but it had been roughly seven years since I had a reading of my own (I’m very happy to live vicariously through Lynn!). I’m so pleased to have had this experience with Kat and to have shared it with the other fathers in the group. Thanks to Mike Edwards for heading up this esteemed gathering of dads, thanks again to the wonderful Kat Baillie for sharing her talents and her time and, as always, thanks to Devon for showing up! You rock!

Emily and Suzanne Giesemann, Messenger of Light
Helping Parents Heal Southern NH had a wonderful turnout for our October meeting with the wonderful Suzanne Giesemann as our guest speaker! Suzanne spoke to us for over an hour about the fact our kids are still-right-here. She also brought through a member's daughter with such clear validations of her personality and what her Mom is doing right now! I will let her Mom share the validations but suffice to say she was flying high as were all of us to witness such a gift. Thank you to Suzanne for her support and her healing messages!

From Lori Worrall, Mom of Emily:
Emily was a fun-loving, outgoing, live-in-the-moment 17-year-old girl who marched to the beat of her own drum and cared deeply for her family and friends. Therefore, it is not surprising that at the “Helping Parents Heal” meeting where we met with medium, Suzanne Giesemann, Emily took the spotlight as the spokesperson.
When describing Emily’s personality Suzanne was spot on, describing her as sassy, opinionated, confident, and cocky. Yet, she also mentioned how Emily had self-esteem issues, insecurities that she carried within, and fear of not fitting in. Furthermore, when describing the way she entered the room that day, she said she could see her pushing everyone aside to ensure that she got to speak. Suzanne also described Emily’s appearance by mentioning her body piercings, tattoos, and eccentric style of clothing. It is really funny that these things were mentioned because Emily was always very proud of her rebel endeavors, like her piercings and tattoos, that I did not agree to. This description Suzanne gave of who Emily was spot on and highlighted that she truly was present.
Suzanne solidified Emily’s presence in multiple ways. For instance, to first figure out whose child was present, Emily chose a very distinct instance, by showing Suzanne someone getting their finger pricked. As Emily’s mother, this instantly made me realize that it must be Emily, as I am currently a medical assistant student and was just practicing finger pricking the other day. Moreover, Suzanne said she saw a line of “A’s” which reminded her of school grades. This alludes to my current grades in my class. I never went to college when I was younger, and I am just now going back to school and was very nervous about how I would do. Finally, the names “Carolyn and Jennifer” were mentioned and these are the names of the two people who accepted me into the medical assistant schooling program I am in. This reading really helped to emphasize that Emily is still with us every day and that she not only knows I am going to school, but Suzanne reiterated that Emily is proud of me for it which was really good to hear.
Additionally, Suzanne described mine and Emily’s relationship by mentioning how she was always texting me, which is true. When she passed, one of the most difficult things was adjusting to my phone not blowing up with text messages from her.
Continually, Suzanne mentions that Emily was launching herself at me and wrapping her arms around me. This is just the essence of who Emily was. You could never escape her hugs and cuddles. She always smothered you in affection and love. Suzanne continued this by saying Emily wants her father to know that she is always hugging him as well. To further reiterate this point, Emily told Suzanne that something was under a pillow. This did not ring any bells for me, but when I told this to Emily’s father, he looked under his pillows and one of his throw pillows had “hugs” embroidered on it.
One of the last things Suzanne mentioned was her father’s brother. She then followed that by mentioning that someone’s birthday was coming up. Interesting enough, Emily’s father’s brother, her Uncle David, had a birthday the day after the reading. This again, solidified Emily’s presence because she was obsessed with her Uncle David and loved him dearly.
Finally, to end the reading, Emily said, “we are never alone, nobody passes alone” which not only eased some of my feelings of worry about who she is with and if she is okay, but I hope eased fellow mom’s feelings about their children’s well being as well.

Helping Parents Heal - Parents of Children with Special Needs
Craig Nelson and his son, Alex
HPH Parents of Children with Special Needs met November 4th online via zoom with Craig Nelson, father of Alex. Craig shared about Alex’s autism, and about the sacred bond he continues to have with his son and the amazing signs and messages he receives. He had several wonderful suggestions, discussing his experience with each one in detail and how they continue to expand their connection. Craig recounted fascinating and inspiring stories of how Alex spoke to him through random strangers very soon after he crossed.
Craig highly recommended and explained kundalini yoga, saying that although it was difficult, it brought him much closer to Alex. He had validation of this in a meeting of HPH Atlanta, where he was shown Alex doing a lotus motion with his hands the same as Craig does in kundalini. Craig also told us how he uses a magnifying glass to find the faces of loved ones in photographs and videos, and how we can use low light to find their orb energy. Parents of children with special needs often fear the death of their kids. Craig had told his Mom that if something happened to Alex, he would die. He said, “I guess I did in a way. I’m not that person any longer. Now I KNOW Alex is with me. I feel like a scientist learning about all this new stuff!” Thank you, Craig and Alex, for giving us new ways to look for signs and giving others hope that we can move forward with our kids. The next meeting of HPH Parents of Children with Special Needs will be December 2 online.

Helping Parents Heal - San Diego
The San Diego October 29th Meeting
We were fortunate to receive a variety of energy healing modalities performed by Kathy Dale, a practitioner of Vibrational Sound and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and also a Certified Professional Life Coach through her Conscious Pathways Coaching. Beginning with alternate nostril breathing, we moved to a Divining Rod exercise. Kathy showed us her set of copper rods, but she gave each of us our own rods made with coat hangers and plastic straws! She walked us through an exercise we could do at home with our “new” rods and gave us a set of instructions to use on our own.
Next, we progressed to Jin Shin Jyutsu, an “ancient art of harmonizing the life energy of the body through the use of hands gently placed and held on various parts of the body. The hands act as ‘jumper cables’ contacting 26 safety energy locks to redirect and unblock the flow of energy throughout the body.” After performing the exercise using all finger holds, she presented each of us an instruction sheet to work on various issues at home.
Our third modality was Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Kathy had already prepared a tapping sequence for us to address anxiety, stress, grief, and being overwhelmed, and told us where we could obtain free focused scripts if we weren’t comfortable writing our own. She left a diagram of tapping points for each of us to keep.
We completed our healing with Vibrational Sound Therapy using Tuning Forks. This was preceded by a discussion of the different brain wave frequencies, with some cymatics photos of solfeggio frequencies and a chart of the human biofield to help us understand the mechanics behind the therapy. For me personally, this was the most powerful healing. I could still feel the effects for several days afterward!
Grateful and thankful and a feeling of fullness are the best descriptors of our healing with Kathy. My profound thanks go to her for spending two and a half hours helping us heal -at no charge- plus leaving all 18 of us a 19-page full color handout on “Healing Through Alternative Modalities of Energy Work,” including a bibliography for further study. There is so much love and support in this world 💖

The HPH-Rockville, Maryland affiliate group celebrated one year this past September and what a year it has been. We have seen our group grow from seven to eighteen parents. While none of us ever wanted to be in this “club” we are so thankful to have created our own tribe of shining light parents. The group welcomed several guest speakers this past year; including the most amazing medium Jamie Clark who joined us via zoom last December – providing gallery readings to all parents in attendance – what a gift. Shining Light Parent, David Allison joined us in February to discuss his book “Finding Davey” and share his journey with us and in May we had the pleasure of the Compassionate Medium Jake Samoyedny spending an evening with our group. This month we are looking forward to Suzanne Giesemann who has been so gracious to find time in her busy schedule. On October 27th, 2019 we also held our first annual healing retreat at the Bon Secours Retreat & Conference Center. Activities included learning about self-chakra, a labyrinth walk, journal writing, and an incredible sound bath meditation hosted by Patrick Diamond from Human Activation.

Helping Parents Heal - Tampa
The Tampa affiliate of Helping Parents Heal met on the last Wednesday of October and we had one of our favorite meetings – parents sharing and inspiring. We love our presenters but some of our most productive insights also come when we learn from each other. Nothing quite models healing like listening to inspiring examples of parents who willed themselves to move from despair to joy, embracing a new kind of relationship with their child. This month we had a new young couple with a very recent loss – their second – and they bravely shared their story and listened intently as experienced parents assured them of brighter days. We were all so impressed as we went around the room and witnessed how several of our parents who had originally come to HPH in a deep state of grief, were now shining their light for these newly grieving parents. Each parent could either choose a thoughtful Inquiry Card to discuss (your Affiliate Leader can find them as an uploaded file on the FB Affiliate Leader page) or could talk about anything on their mind.
Our wonderful co-leader, Amy Diehl, got us off to a centered and relaxed start with a lovely 30-minute Yoga Nidra meditation. Thank you to all 19 who were present for sharing your light and wisdom. You are making such a difference in other’s lives! Watch for upcoming details of our November 20 meeting – you won’t want to miss our inspired and talented guest, Jennifer Farmer.

Carol Allen and the Parents of Helping Parents Heal - Cave Creek
Another amazing meeting in Cave Creek. A large crowd with some new parents. Everyone talked about the amazing signs they have received and how much the group has been a lifeline to them. One of the moms shared her journey stating she took pictures in nature and the pictures spoke to her, she passed them around and we could see the many beautiful signs in the pics. So many powerful stories. Several affiliate leaders joined us as well!
