ARGENTINIAN RUGBY TOUR REPORT
(written by Dante Gardiner & Flynn Henderson)

We had the privilege of travelling to Argentina during the recent holidays for a rugby tour.
The first city the team visited was Buenos Aires. This was our first game of five and the lads all put in a good effort and came out with the score of 44-7 and the second group of boys won 36-0.  Our favourite thing about Buenos Aires was the size of the city and all of the massive buildings wherever we walked, this is one of the biggest cities in Argentina that we would visit. The next place we visited was Rosario, where the two groups of boys both had good wins of 40-5 and 7-0.  The club was really nice and the ground was amazing. The next place we visited was Santa Fe and this was where fatigue had set in for some of the boys so the coaches decided to play with one team instead of two.  We will came out with a convincing win of 108-7. The second to last place we went to was Carlos Paz, we again only played with one team but still won 97-0. I think that the favourite part of this city was the culture and also the stunning views, all of the boys enjoyed their time here. Last but not least we went to Tucuman and this was where we expected to find our hardest and most challenging game. The boys had a rough start but found their rhythm and we won 39-7.
Overall everyone loved the trip and I think everyone should visit a place like this and gain this experience.

Future Pathways
STP
  • Mr Smith's class has now got the roof on the playhouse and it will be transported out to Clarke's Road Kitchen Cafe, where it will be the central attraction for the children's playground.
  • A highlight this week has been the boys completing their forklift licence.  The tutor at Alltranz was exceptionally impressed with the students' punctuality and maturity.  It was surprising to find out how many industries require day to day use of a forklift and our students found the experience very worthwhile and enjoyable.
  • Mrs Williams took some students to Breadhead Bakery where they learnt about the industry as well as sampling some of their products.  "It was great because we got to try some different breads - I would have liked it if we'd gotten to see them making bread, but it was an impromptu trip - I would recommend going into Breadhead to get some bread as they have some nice stuff".
  • Trade Up came in and spoke with the boys regarding their service as an employment placement provider that specialises in placing and supporting youth into full-time, sustainable employment within the trades.  The highlight were the sausage rolls they brought!
GATEWAY
Raveen Sally, Leon McDonald and Kiarn Friis enjoyed 3 days doing the 'taster' course in Hospitality at Queenstown Resort College over the holiday break.
The PSK1 boys also enjoyed their day doing a 'taster' Food and Manufacturing course at Pacific Coast Institute.

  • 10 boys attended a Level 3 leadership course during the holidays run by Pacific Coast Technical Institute.
  • Another 9 students and a staff member recently completed a Working at Heights course with Elite.

CAREERS

ETCO presented to a group of aspiring electrical apprentices recently outlining the various pathways that there are to becoming an electrician.
PASIFIKA
  • The final session was held for the students who have been mentored this year.  Thanks must be given to the teachers who have been on this waka: Ms Davison, Mrs Montalto, Mr Peterson-Vanuve, Mr Stewart and Ms Jones.
  • The Pasifika Prizegiving was held on Friday 25 November.  Congratulations to all of the prizewinners who were recognised, in particular Jasiah Jennings, Year 12 who is this years' recipient of the Taula Trophy.
  • The performance group also participated in 'Pasifika in the Bay', an annual festival that celebrates Pacific culture.
