School Board votes against changes to student assignment plan


The Seattle School Board adopted a Student Assignment Transition Plan for the 2020-21 school year at their November 6 meeting. The board decided not to make changes to the highly capable cohort model (HCC) at this meeting, but will reconsider HC services at WMS for 2020-21 when a more complete plan is presented to the board regarding The Technology Access Foundation (TAF) coming to WMS. The board said it would make its decisions regarding TAF and HCC before open enrollment begins on February 3, 2020.

The PTSA is providing breakfast for school staff on Wednesday, November 20.

Thanksgiving Dinner-in-a-Bag for families in need


Be a part of a Washington Middle School tradition.
  • Donate a Thanksgiving Dinner. You will be asked to shop for a specific list of groceries and supplies (costing approximately $40) to deliver to school the week before Thanksgiving. Email katherine.barr@gmail.com for full details.
  • Request a Thanksgiving Dinner. Your meal will be available at school during the week of Thanksgiving. Email aemckinney@seattleschools.org to reserve.

Help wanted to produce the WMS school directory


The PTSA seeks a volunteer with skills in Excel to format data provided by the school district.

Visit Wolf Haven International with the Sierra Club


All students are invited to join this free trip on Saturday, November 16. Transportation leaves school at 8:30am and returns at 4:30pm. Permission slips are available at the school library.

Opportunity grants for Washington teachers and staff


Congratulations to the first PTSA opportunity grant recipients of the school year!

Expanded lunchtime activities. $7,900 was awarded to HOST Coordinator Won Choi to staff lunchtime activities in the gym and outdoors.

8th grade Language Arts. $417 was granted to teacher Dylan Gerrity to purchase copies of Spellbinding Sentences for his students.

Community News

 

The 'Ski Bus.' Weekly Friday bus trips in January and February take students from Washington Middle School to the Summit at Snoqualmie. Buses leave at 4:00pm and return at 11:30pm.

Transition School at the Robinson Center for Young Scholars. Current 8th graders may apply to this University of Washington (UW) early entrance program. Students complete coursework during the 2020-21 school year . Students matriculate to UW in Spring 2021. Application deadline is March 9th, 2020.
