2019 Korean Music Festival

In conjunction with the Nationality Rooms & Intercultural Exchange Programs and the Korean Heritage Room Committee, the Asian Studies Center is honored to support the 2019 Korean Music Festival. This event will be directed by Younga Reitz and Yong Chae Lee and include choral and instrumental performances along with traditional Korean dance. The event is free for students and children and $10 for adults. Those who come dressed in a hanbok (Korean traditional attire) will receive a half off discount. Please join us on Saturday, November 16th at 7 PM in the Frick Fine Arts Auditorium.
ANIMAL STORIES: FURUKAWA HIDEO AND THE NARRATION OF DISASTER
Dr. Doug Slaymaker  researches 20th century literature and art with a specific focus on literature produced by post-disaster Japan. In the talk Animal Stories: Furukawa Hideo and the Narration of Disaster, Slaymaker will discuss the logic behind the frequent appearance of animals in fictional stories about Japan's Tohoku disaster. He will also discuss how he has used Hideo Furukawa's fictional works to reach his findings. This event was made possible by the support of the Japan Iron and Steel Federation and the Mitsubishi Japan endowments at the University of Pittsburgh. EAST MEETS WEST MEETS SOUTH: A GLOBAL CONVERSATION
In a co-sponsored event by the World History Center, authors and commentators Raja Adal and Pernille Roge will lead the next lecture in the History Department Book Symposium Series. In "East meets West meets South: A Global Conversation," both will talk about their interpretations and findings in Economists and the Reinvention of Empire: France in the Americas and Africa and Beauty in the Age of Empire: Japan, Egypt, and the Global History of Aesthetic Education. ANNOUNCING SCREENSHOT: ASIA 
The Asian Studies Center--in collaboration with the Film Studies Program--is thrilled to announce Screenshot: Asia, its new film and media series and Asian film festival. The festival is set to premiere in September 2020. During the academic year, Screenshot: Asia will feature Asian and Asian-American films and programs on campus. Through the series, the Asian Studies Center and Film Studies Program hope to show a holistic lens of Asian and Asian-American fronted art to the University of Pittsburgh community. 2019 CHINA TOWN HALL @ GREENSBURG CAMPUS
As relations between the United States and China deepen, the National Committee finds it increasingly important to discuss the impact of this relationship on everyday Americans' lives. This year, George Stephanopoulos will moderate the webcast panel discussion featuring a panel of experts.
