Baptism ...

After mittendrin’s last baptism service in spring 2019, Nate asked our Small Group from church, “So who do we want to see in the water being baptized next time?” We all rejoiced at the thought of others being baptized and agreed on a list of three people. We diligently set out during each Tuesday’s meeting to pray for the people on our list.

In September, our church hosted another baptism. One of the four who got baptized was from our list, and another from the list was saved during that time!

We often talk about discipleship and what we need to be teaching others. While talking and teaching is good for discipleship, sometimes people need to experience something to truly mature in our faith.  Our small group members needed to experience the power of prayer by God showing up and seeing His work being done through us, calling on His Kingdom to come down and intervene in the lives of Potsdamers.

Here is Anne being Baptized with Steffen and her sister Marie.  Marie, on the far right, is in our Small Group.

More than carving pumpkins ...

With the excitement of the recent baptism in September still looming, Nate asked our small group, ”Who do we want to see saved next?” We each named one person and shared the list in our text group so we could all be praying for these not-yet-believing people.

As we diligently started to pray each week for those people, an organic conversation started around how we could involve them in church. This led to the idea of them coming to our small group, but it needed to look a little different than a typical small group. It had to be special. And then Lidia shouted out, “We need to have a party! A pumpkin carving party!”

We all agreed to each invite one person who is not yet a believer or member of mittendrin to the party. We took the month of October to pray for those who would come and for the party itself.

On Tuesday the 22nd, 20 people were in attendance for the pumpkin carving party…10 people who were NOT PART of the Church. Nate welcomed everyone to our home and said, “Normally we starts our Small Group and meal with a prayer. As long as there are no objections, we will pray and get started with our evening.” We bowed our heads and Nate lead us in a simple, but welcoming prayer.

The Lord then filled the rest of the evening with laughter, healthy competition, and yummy pumpkin soup. At the end of the time they were all excited about returning for a Christmas gathering.  We could see the excitement in our Small Group members as well.  We had all been able to connect our friends, colleagues, boyfriends, and neighbors to the beginnings of a relationship with Him
All of us gathered around our dinning room table carving!  Praise the Lord for a table that seats 20!!!!

28 Days of Prayer and Fasting...

Since the Summer, mittendrin has been studying the book of Acts and the early church. Nate, as part of the Leadership Team, has been studying and discussing what it looks like for mittendrin to become a gospel-centered movement in Potsdam

The Lord has called the Leadership Team to challenge the church to reach 1% of Potsdamers (roughly 2,000 people) with the gospel.

During the process, we have seen and studied as a church four things that contributed to the early church in Jerusalem becoming a worldwide movement of the gospel: teaching, fellowship, the Lord's Supper, and prayer.

On November 4th, our church will focus on prayer by hosting 28 Days of Prayer and Fasting. We want to deepen our relationship with God individually and in groups, with the emphases and focus on aligning with God’s heart for Potsdam.

During the 28 Days, the members of our church will received a daily devotional email with prompts for self-reflection and three things we are corporately praying for in our city. We will host “Church in Movement” prayer gatherings, where we will ride public transit and pray for the various parts of the city.  In addition, we will host a church-wide Day of Fasting starting on the 30th and ending with a Celebration Worship Night on Dec. 1st.
We pray because we want to hear God's voice for our city!

Please pray with me for ...

  • Our new believers that professed their faith in baptism.  May they endure the pursecution that may follow.
  • For the not yet believers who came to the pumpkin carving.  May the seeds that were planted grow!
  • The Lord to reveal Himself during this time of Prayer and Fasting to the members of mittendrin.
  • God to make His message clear and for us to respond in bold faith.
