Hey  <<First Name>>,

It's not out of place to wish you a happy new month right? 🙂 Happy New Month. And just like that, it's less than 60 days to January 1, 2020, and less than 50 days to Christmas. Are you ready <<First Name>>?

Trivia: Which of Google's acquisitions has given the best return on investment? For some context, in the past 18 years Google
and by extension Alphabet, its parent companyhas acquired 230 companies, including Android ($50 million), AdMob ($750 million), HTC's Pixel unit ($1.1 billion), Waze ($1.15 billion), Youtube ($1.65 billion), FitBit ($2.1 billion), and Doubleclick ($3.1 billion).

The Bank of the Free, Kuda Bank, has processed $15 million (5.4 billion) and garnered thousands of users since the launch of its public beta in September. Kuda's co-founders, Babs Ogundeyi (CEO) and Musty Mustapha (CTO), disclosed this at the maiden edition of Kuda Bank's town hall meeting on November 1. They added that some fancy updates will be added to the Kuda app in the coming days, including cardless withdrawal, referral tracker, budget and card control.

What happened at the town hall meeting? The town hall meeting brought together Kuda bank users, partners and stakeholders in the Nigerian techosystem. The themes discussed include Moving Africa with Cloud Power; How Fintechs are Enabling Fintechs; Switching On Payments for Startups, and Building Together: What Our Tech Ecosystem Needs. The guest speakers were Wale Olokodana, Business Group Director for Cloud & Enterprise at Microsoft Nigeria; Hakeem Adeniji Adele, Deputy Managing Director of eTranzact; Chidima Iwueke, Partner at Microtraction; and Samuel Goriola Oluyemi, Head of Emerging Market/OFI/Agency Management at NIBSS.

The digital-only bank, which recently raised $1.6 million (
580 million), said it's also rolling out its API in closed beta. Any business interested in using Kuda Bank's API should send a mail to openapi@kudabank.com. Babs promised that they are working to ensure their Verve cards are delivered to users within 2-5 workings days.

P.S: Kuda is hiring for four roles.

Microsft is about to pull the plug from its operating system, the Windows 7 Starter Pack 1. In two months time, after January 14, 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for any issues, software and security updates to Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

What does this mean? Peradventure, you're still working with Windows 7 on your personal computer, which would be unbelievable, it means your PC will be susceptible to malware attacks and Microsoft will not provide you with technical support when you have an issue. You are better off upgrading to Windows 10. 87.38% of desktop/laptop runs on the Windows operating system.

MTN Nigeria has launched a music streaming service, called MusicTime. The music streaming service was first launched in South Africa last year December using Simfy technology, which MTN acquired in November 2018. And following the relative success recorded in South Africa (10 million users), MusicTime is now available in Nigeria and soon-to-be-launched in Ghana.

How's MusicTime different from Spotify and its ilk? Unlike the subscription model of music streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer, MusicTime is time-based. That is, you buy time, inclusive of data, to gain access to the local and international music on the platform. In that sense, it's a pay-as-you-go music streaming platform. Unlike the popular MTN Music Plus app, MusicTime operates under the Simfy Technologies rather than being branded as MTN's.

First Ayoba, then this
MusicTime. Why? According to the CEO of MTN Group, Rob Shuter, MusicTime is simply a way to keep people on the MTN network, get them to use more of MTN services and attract new customers. In other words, it will not move the needle on its finances but it's a good asset. MTN's foray into music streaming service began in August 2018 with a partnership with Tidal in Uganda. Meanwhile, its instant messaging app, Ayoba, was launched in April 2019. And like MusicTime, it operates under Ayoba and not MTN-branded. "The Ayoba strategy is a much bigger dream", according to Shuter.

Interswitch has acquired eClat Healthcare Limited, a Nigeria-based healthcare technology company, for 23 billion. The fintech company, through the purchase of a 60% stake in the health technology company, is set to become one of the top healthcare technology platforms in Nigeria. Prior to the acquisition, eClat has been one of the leading Electronic Health Record platforms used in over 250 public and private healthcare facilities in Nigeria.
