Physical activity and osteoporosis

November is Osteoporosis Month.  This is the second of our articles on osteoporosis.  The first one focused on nutrition and osteoporosis and now the focus is on physical activity and osteoporosis.  Osteoporosis is a bone-thinning disease that causes your bones to become thin and weak. You form new bone the most during childhood and young adulthood. “Peak bone mass”, which is your maximum bone density and strength, is reached by the age of 25.  This is known as your “calcium bank” that you your body will use throughout your life. Bone is a living tissue that, like muscles, can be strengthened by exercise.
