METODO CLASSICO BLANC DE BLANCS 'ANCESTRALE,' NV... $28.00
Uber pretty and lifted in its florals as one would expect from a from a wine dominated by an overtly aromatic grapes like Muller Thurgau and Riesling, with it's co-conspirator in Chardonnay driving plenty finesse and precision here. Think juicy yellow nectarines, rosewater, orange blossom and marzipan/candied almond all lifted by an ever-so-rustic fizz. A lot of bang for the buck under this cork!

METODO CLASSICO PINOT NERO ROSÉ 'ANCESTRALE,' 2015... $40.00
The red fruit comes well and truly to the fore in the rosé rendition of the metodo classico - red berry, ripe red plum, strawberry talc and plum skin are framed by darker purple florals (violets, maybe something more tropical?) Contrasting flecks of savory Mediterranean herbs and spearmint, as well as a low dosage of only 2g/l provide an earth-centric balance to the bottling. 36 mos on lees.

SF Winemaker Tasting: Castello di Stefanago (Oltrepo Pavese)
Thursday, November 7th: 6-8pm
SAN FRANCISCO
$15 TASTING FEE (waived for Wine Club members)
The Baruffaldi's are in town and we're proud to host them on their first official expedition to CA!! The Baruffaldi boys and their families have taken residence in the rolling agrarian heartland of the Oltrepo Pavese for a number of generations now and continue to tend to a land of grapes, grains, fruits, vegetables and even hops, with Giacomo and his brother Antonio overseeing the day to operations of the property – wine and beer production included. The only thing matched by the quality of the (certified organic and biodynamic) farming here is the hospitality and warmth of the people behind it… oh, and their new baby donkey, he’s pretty neat too. While the family’s focus and expertise is rooted in the production of a raft of stunning and ridiculously high value sparkling wines, the brothers have proven that they are more than capable when it comes to non-bubbly side of wine. 6 wines.

SF Importer Tasting: Calabretta (Etna, Sicily) w/ Rare Wine Co.
Friday, November 8th: 6-8pm
SAN FRANCISCO
$15 TASTING FEE (waived for Wine Club members)
Massimilano Calabretta is practically Biondivino family! He and his ethereal Etna wines are about as near and dear to our hearts as people and wines go within these walls, and while we don't have the handsome fella here in the flesh we will have a killer set of his new releases primed for your contemplation. Unique among his Etna peers in that he releases his wines only after extensive aging in botte grande and then bottle, his releases are often six to eight years behind most other producers on the volcano, with many of them drawing fruit from 80+ year old vines on original rootstocks from some of Etna's top sub-zones. These are wines that are all at once meditative, challenging and supremely delicious. 5 wines.
