IEW Kick-Off Event: March of the Flags

Monday, November 18th | 11:00 am

Northwestern will join higher education institutions around the world to celebrate global education during the 2019 International Education Week (IEW), Nov 18-22. Students, staff and faculty who want to represent a country of origin, heritage, or interest are invited to register to participate in the kick-off event, March of the Flags, on Monday, November 18, 2019, at 11 am. The march will end around 12pm at Fisk Hall with a casual lunch and student speakers sharing their reflections on international education. Register now!

Intercultural Awareness Workshop
for Staff and Faculty

Wednesday, November 20th | 3:30 - 5:00 pm

Friday, November 22nd | 9:30 - 10:30 am

We are offering two sessions of this interactive workshop that will give you greater self-awareness, as well as practical information for how you can increase your effectiveness in intercultural situations. All participants will need to complete an online assessment, the Cultural Orientations Indicator (COI)®, prior to the workshop. The deadline for the Nov 20th workshop is tomorrow, Nov 13th — sign up today!

Visiting Administrators Travel Grant Applications Due Dec 1

Full-time staff members who do not normally travel as part of their responsibilities may apply to spend up to one week at one of Northwestern’s partner institutions to strengthen our existing partnerships at the administrative level and to learn about administrative practices and the management of Northwestern programs and activities abroad. Welcome, Jennifer Gerrard!

The Office of the Vice President for International Relations welcomes Jennifer Gerrard as our new Director of International Agreements and Visitors. Jennifer has spent the majority of her career in the field of international education and has held roles focusing on international student program management, academic advising, and educational development in conflict contexts. In her new role, Jennifer's primary responsibilities include: handling international partnerships and agreements, hosting visitors and delegations, and being the liaison to the Chicagoland international diplomatic community. Welcome, Annie Lee!

We also welcome Annie Lee as the new Executive Assistant to the VP for International Relations, Dévora Grynspan. Annie is an advocate for cultural exchange and all things international. Having grown up in New York City, she developed an avid interest in learning about other cultures and in traveling globally. She has studied French, Hebrew, and Russian, and is fluent in conversational Korean. Before joining the Office of International Relations, Annie worked as a financial and grants manager for a social networks lab at the McCormick School of Engineering and the School of Communication.
