NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 2019

From the Desk of Our Executive Director

I am excited to share some big news with you. This year, Peter Singer and our Team have embarked on an ambitious project that we believe will dramatically increase the number of people introduced to the ideas in Peter’s landmark book The Life You Can Save and the financial support our organization generates for our recommended nonprofits.

Peter—with some help from our Team and others—has completely updated the original 2009 edition of the book. On December 3rd, “Giving Tuesday,” we will release the updated 10th Anniversary Edition - The Life You Can Save in eBook, celebrity-read audiobook—Paul Simon, Kristen Bell, Stephen Fry, and other supporters narrate chapters—and paperback versions. You will be able to download and share the eBook and audiobook for free from our newly updated website—also to be launched on December 3rd.

The first edition of the book in 2009 had a dramatic impact on the fight against extreme poverty, despite the fact that it was not widely marketed, was only available in hard-copy, and could only be obtained via purchase or from a library. The 2019 edition, on the other hand, will be widely marketed—thanks to a generous grant from The Light Foundation—in the U.S., Australia, Canada, the U.K., and India. Distribution of the book into next year and beyond through marketing and partnerships will be a major focus of our Team’s work. With such efforts, on top of the celebrity narration and free downloads via our newly-designed website, we believe that the new book’s impact will far eclipse that of the first edition.

There will be more to come about all this over the next few months and we will be reaching out to you to help us spread the word. The ultimate goal of course is to enlist new donors and raise more money to reduce unnecessary suffering and premature death among people living in extreme poverty and to empower them to escape the vicious cycle in which they are trapped.

We welcome companies, schools, universities, libraries, and other organizations to help us give away the book downloads for free. If your organization can help, please contact us at partnerships@thelifeyoucansave.org.

Peter and our Team are very excited about this project...and we hope that you will be too.

Do Good. Feel Good.
