TD Summer Reading Club for 2020 - Game On!

Theme for 2020

As posted on the official TD Summer Reading Club Staff Site, in the spring, the Creative Team for the TD Summer Reading Club asked library members to vote on four themes for the 2020 TD Summer Reading Club. A total of 1,201 votes were cast and the results were very close:
  • Game On!: 354 votes
  • Conquer Your Fears/Heroes: 308 votes
  • Rhythm and Patterns: 280 votes
  • Better Together: 259 votes
“Game On!” emerged as the favourite theme for 2020. With that idea, a creative brief was developed to guide the creation of all program content and here are the most pertinent sections:
  • Compelling Idea - This summer, let’s gather together to cheer each other on as we achieve our personal best. We can play on a team, knowing we’re better together, or play on our own to see how far we can go. We’ll learn about our world, ourselves and each other through play and if we stumble along the way, we’ll get up laughing and keep on trying, because failing is sometimes part of the game.  Whether we’re playing in the library, online, around a table or in a field, independently or on a team, we’ll stretch our physical and mental limits and give it our best, for the love of the game.
  • Tone - Dedicated, enthusiastic, optimistic, joyful
  • Personality - Active, fun, exhilarated, daring, confident
And in the materials and resources, there will be lot of games as well as sports activities tied to the Summer Olympics, STEAM activities, and board game elements

His newest graphic novel, Alien Nate, comes out in early 2020. He has also just finished illustrating a new Robert Munsch book titled School Rules!.
Ordering the 2020 program materials
The order form will be available in the first week of January 2020 - and more information will be distributed closer to the time.  The deadline for ordering will be on or about Tuesday January 21st.  We expect the same elements as last year - the smaller notebooks for two reading levels (reader/pre-reader), stickers, web stickers, Recommended Reads brochure, folding sheets and promotional posters.

Unfortunately, our distribution list from last year was taken down, so we have been working to re-create our contact lists.  In the meantime, please share and, if you or a staff member wish to be added to the list, just send a note to summerreading@sols.org
Distribution of materials
What will be different this year involves the distribution of materials.  We are still working on a plan but distribution will be handled by the folks at Library and Archives Canada this year.  It is likely that there will be numerous distribution points around southern Ontario where materials can be picked up -  perhaps centered around those libraries with very large orders - while other orders will be available for pick-up at local meetings or workshops!

Your patience with these changes is greatly appreciated.
