IT IS TIME FOR SOME SHORT STORIES!

Also known as “The Wizard of Cosme Velho” from Rio de Janeiro, Machado de Assis (1839-1908), was the pioneer Brazilian novelist, poet, playwright, and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of Brazilian Literature. He has been widely revered by American writers from Susan Sontag to Woody Allen and was a contemporary of Henry James and Mark Twain.

As his star is now on the rise over North America, join us for a thrilling introduction to his distinctive spell. He came closer, perhaps than any other writer to transforming reading itself into an act of Theatre.
