Coastcare Week December 2 – 8, 2019

Coastcare Week is an annual campaign acknowledging community groups around Australia who are contributing to the significant improvement of coastal and marine environments. Volunteers and groups work across the country in many different areas including estuaries, coastal and marine wetlands and river and salt marsh ecosystems.

PROTECTING ROEBUCK BAY FROM TOXIC ALGAE

An environmental group responsible for protecting Roebuck Bay’s pristine ecosystem including native dugongs from toxic run-off pollution will represent WA after winning the Virgin Coastcare Award at the 2019 Western Australian Landcare Awards.

COASTCARE ON THE DERWENT

Over the past 19 years, Bellerive Bluff Land & Coastcare Group Inc has addressed the degradation, under-development and under-utilization of a 2-3 km section of the Derwent Estuary foreshore, from Hobart’s Waterfront Hotel to the western end of Bellerive Beach. And they have been able to effect extraordinary changes.

PROTECTING ARNHEM LAND TURTLES

An Aboriginal environmental group safeguarding the vast Northeast Arnhem Land marine wildlife from plastic debris is set to represent NT on a national stage after winning the Virgin Coastcare title at the Northern Territory Landcare Awards.

TRACKING MULLOWAY LIFE CYCLES

A community group based out of Mount Gambier is monitoring the interstate movement patterns of Victorian Mulloway.
For the past three years, Nature Glenelg Trust has investigated broad-scale movement patterns of Mulloway with the Mulloway Tagging Project.
