October came and went in a flash and it is now actually November, Christmas lights will soon be everywhere, and the beautiful Autumn leaves are mostly on the ground. It is a little late but here is our October news.

Groups

During October we had 6 primary school residentials, 1 youth group weekend, a church Dad’s and sons’ weekend and a weekend with our own family. After an intensive few weeks over the summer and into September it has been good to settle into a calmer pattern of schools and weekend bookings. Although it is a little chillier and sometimes wetter, they seem to have a great time and bonfires are always a great hit on the darker evenings. We were pleased to welcome a youth group from Didcot Baptist for their first visit to the Centre too.

Youth Work

We have got busy once again with our Friday night youth groups at church. It has been amazing to see so many young people coming along and we’re regularly getting up to 65 to 70 young people across the 2 groups that meet on a Friday. We love to share the Christian message on these nights, and it is great to see them chatting and asking questions. Our Sunday night group is also a good time to share and learn more and a group of around 10 come along to that on a regular basis.

At the moment we are busily coming up with ideas to fundraise for a mission trip to Mexico with Urban Saint’s next year. 9 young people have signed up to come along and with 4 leaders. It is a challenge to raise the money but with creativity and prayer we are excited to see all that God will do.

Min y Don Open Day

We had our Open Day in October this year. It was a great day with around 100 people coming along. Lots of families and young people from our links with the church and local area came along, zipped, climbed, arched, chatted, drank tea and coffee and ate ice-cream or candyfloss. It was another opportunity to love and serve our local community.

The Team

The team have settled into the Autumn, working hard and training hard as well as having lots of fun (we hope). In Staff Fellowship we have just finished studying a book called ‘Love Does’ by Bob Goff. We have been challenged to love each other and those we meet more but in a practical way that shows Jesus love for us, and points people to Him. We pray that as we all go about our work this will become more and more evident to our guests, and to those God puts us alongside in the local area. We have recently appointed a new administrator, Andrew, who is going to hopefully start in the next few weeks. Please pray for him as he moves and settles in this area.

Please pray:

  • Thank you for God’s provision for the administration post and in lots of other ways too.
  • For the team that they will be blessed and encouraged as they go about their daily work.
  • For staffing – we continue to have spaces for another 2 on the instructional team and are hoping to employ another Domestic Assistant.
  • For all that is going on with our young people.
  • That we will find ways to raise the money for the Mexico Rebuild Trip next year.
  • That all our guests will experience God’s love in this place.

In Other News:

  • Beth and Jake returned from honeymoon looking very tanned.
  • Hannah is learning how to fall off a bike!
  • We can’t wait to eat more of Clara’s cakes.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support.

With love from Pete & Susie
and all the team here at Min y Don
