Over the entire 20 years of our history, we've had a manufacturing solution attached to our design service. And the reason we do that is simple: It's really important when you launch a new product that you have a tight integration between development and manufacturing - because they need it.

Volumes will be going up and down. The product will evolve as you get feedback from the market.  Engineers need to be there to support that process. It makes our clients more comfortable knowing that we love that kind of work instead of merely tolerating it. This issue is all about sharing our expertise and helping make the NPI journey as smooth as possible for our readers.

This issue introduces our first in a series of interviews with successful serial Medtech Entrepreneurs. Geof Auchinleck, CEO of Claris Healthcare, is our first subject.  His story is inspiring and informative. Don't miss it!

I'm pleased to introduce our latest client testimonial video.  Kenneth Irving, President of Fortitude, shares his philosophy for building trust in client-vendor relationship and his experiences working with StarFish.

As always, thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Scott Phillips

Geof was part of the Vancouver-based team that built and tested the world’s first robot specifically designed to assist in surgery, then went on to develop a number of other surgical technologies, including surgical tools for laparoscopic surgery, surgical limb positioning, blood sample handling equipment, apparatus for total knee arthroplasty and surgical drapes. He holds 21 US patents for various medical device technologies.

First-to-Market vs. robust commercialization: trade-offs, tips, and tactics

By Dana Trousil

Bringing your medical device to market involves a lot of trade-offs. First-to-Market vs. robust commercialization process. Do you launch quickly with a minimum viable product? There may be significant post-launch changes in order to be the first to market.

Possible negative feedback from rushing to market may destroy any device adoption. Perhaps going through an extra spin or two to resolve potential manufacturability or production issues is warranted. Below are some trade-offs, tips, and tactics from our manufacturing and supply chain team that are worth thinking about.
