May 2020

COVID-19 is impacting our lives in many ways. One is that many people are rediscovering the joy of getting outside on a bicycle. This is perfect timing because May is National Bike Month! Our way of life is changing, and some of those changes are thankfully temporary, but let’s hold onto this embrace of bicycling and enjoying the outdoors. Together we can celebrate the physical and mental health biking brings and the humble bicycle's power to unites us all, even as we stay physically distant:

Dear Sprout, as the state gradually opens up I am thinking about my commute back to work. I usually take the bus to work, now with COVID-19 I'm not sure it's safe. What is being done to protect bus riders?

Green Mountain Transit (GMT) is currently limiting the number of passengers on board buses to allow for social distancing (12 passengers on 30' buses, 14 on 35', and 18 on 40'). All passengers and drivers are required to wear a mask a space at least 6' apart.

Further, GMT has increased cleaning and sanitation at stations and on vehicles including the use of electrostatic sprayers and the deployment of hand sanitizing dispensers, disinfectant wipes, and cleaning sprays.

Buses are also currently fare free but there are some service modifications. You can find all of the latest updates on the GMT website. -Sprout
