Sexual Orientation Monitoring Survey

Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) patients can face serious health inequalities. Sexual Orientation Monitoring (the collection of data on patient sexuality with patient consent) helps the NHS understand the health challenges and experiences of LGB people so the NHS can develop plans to improve care for LGB patients. NHS England and NHS Improvement is conducting a survey to understand how the different parts of the NHS are collecting this data. The results will help the NHS sensibly and sensitively collect this data. You can respond as an organisation or individually. Responses can be anonymised. Surveys should be completed by 27/11/19.

Expansion of training practices and clinical trainers – Funding available

In light of the new roles now appearing in Primary Care and the need to increase the numbers of GP’s it has been acknowledged that more training practices and clinical trainers will be required to provide the right level of support to these new roles in addition to enabling an increase to the annual intake of GP Trainees.

The STP has been given a pot of money to support practices to become approved training practices and to support individual clinicians who would like to attend the training required to become a clinical trainer.

I would therefore like to invite you to submit expressions of interest either personally or as a practice by providing the below information by email to: julie.a.baran@suffolk.nhs.uk by close of business on the 15th November 2019.

More details here
International Recruitment to posts and Tier 2 Visa Sponsorship
Funding available until end of January 2020.

The local International GP Recruitment (IGPR) Team have been working with practices across the STP over the last 9 months to support practices through the process to obtain Tier 2 sponsorship which in turn enables recruitment of non EEA nationals either through recruiting qualifying GP Registrars or through general vacancy advertisements for clinical roles.

NHSE have now advised that the reimbursement of the sponsorship practice application costs will only be available for applications made prior to the end of January 2020.

We would therefore like to encourage all practices across the STP to take advantage of this offer before it ends as the sponsorship licence lasts for up to 4 years so whilst it may not be required immediately it might be of use in the future.

Recruiting GP Nurses just got easier

A new NHS website makes it easier for practices to attract high quality candidates for General Practice Nursing roles. gpnursing.jobs.nhs.uk  interlocks with NHS Jobs and collates vacancies even if they have different job titles. Users can search for General Practice Nurse, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Nurse Associate and Health Care Support Workers.

The site also includes information about GP Nursing training and careers.

For adverts to be included they must be uploaded onto NHS Jobs, which is free for GP practices. To open an account or for technical support call 01443 443827 or email: nhsbsa.nhsjobsenquiries@nhs.net

Excellence in Supporting Healthcare certificate

The Practice Managers Association (PMA) were delighted to play a key part in the national launch of the ‘Excellence in Supporting Healthcare’ certificate on 1 October 2019.  The event was the culmination of a successful collaboration between the PMA, Our Healthier South East London STP and its learning UK to develop the ongoing work of Dr Jackie Tavabie to create a comprehensive and accredited online programme for the non-clinical workforce in primary, secondary, allied professional, social care and voluntary sectors. NHS England and NHS Improvement have invited the PMA to share information at Primary Care Networks - Next Steps for Practice Managers Conference.

Applications invited for large scale change masterclasses

NHS England and NHS Improvement are offering health and care teams’ targeted support for large scale change via face-to-face masterclasses. The masterclasses – run by the Transformation Academy for Large Scale Change (TALSC) – will take the form of face-to-face, learning-in-action events designed to help teams to achieve their large scale change ambitions. Taking place in February and March 2020 in London, Leeds and Birmingham, the sessions will connect teams to an expert faculty and will be highly interactive. Places on the masterclasses will be offered following an expressions of interest process, with a deadline of midnight on Thursday 28 November 2019.
