Congregational Potluck Meal & Meeting

saladThis Sunday, November 10, everyone is invited to gather for the congregational meal and meeting following the nurture hour, 12:00 p.m. Bring a main dish and a salad or dessert to share.

SUCCESSFUL POTLUCK TIPS:
  1. The ovens will only be used for warming! They are always full of dishes, therefore they will not cook your food. Please bring your dish already warm or in a crock-pot.
  2. Because of the new line configuration, we are asking that table service/baskets not be put on the wall opposite the bathrooms. Suggestions: coat closets, Jubilee Hall, under mailboxes.
  3. Please bring your own table service! This allows Fellowship members to clean up quickly and make it to the congregational meeting.
- Thank you on behalf of the Fellowship Commission!

The meeting will begin after the meal. It is expected to be a fairly short meeting so childcare will not be provided. If your children would like to play in the Jubilee Hall or playground, a parent should plan to be with them. Alternatively, all children are welcome in the sanctuary. Coloring pages and a basket of crayons will be available for them.

The agenda for the meeting includes:
  1. Approve minutes of the August meeting.
  2. Hear a financial report.
  3. Update on the next pastor-congregational review.
  4. Clarifying pastoral roles.

Next Sunday's Worship Service

hymn booksNext Sunday, November 17, we will worship at Camp Amigo (9:00-10:00 a.m.) as a part of our church retreat. There will be no Sunday services at Berkey. The theme for our service  will be "The Songs of God's Creation", based on Isaiah 55:12. To prepare for this time of worship, you are invited to think about a hymn that has been particularly meaningful in your life.  Perhaps the hymn reminds you of a time or place when it was sung or perhaps it contains words or music that never fail to move you. Whatever the reason, you are invited to share about why you find the hymn to be meaningful. We will then sing the hymn together. If you have something to share, please contact a member of Worship Commission (Greg Smucker, Patsy Sherer, Lois Stoltzfus Mast, Lindsy Diener-Locke, Merrill Krabill, or Mark Schloneger).

Invitation to Youth Event

youthThe Youth Honors Orchestras will hold their Fall Concert at Sauder Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19. Please come and watch Ian McHugh, Ruth Morrison, and the rest of the youth perform. Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors/students, and GC faculty/staff/students free with valid ID.

Are your children involved in theater, musical, athletic, or other activities? We want to know! Please submit information to the office about any upcoming activities so that we can come and support our Berkey youth.

Christmas Project

mittenIf you would like the opportunity to teach your children the joy of giving to others in need, we have received generous cash donations for CAPS Heart of Holidays assist-a-family project. This will allow you to shop with someone else’s money! Please text (536-5138) or email Carla Weldy before November 22 if you would enjoy this opportunity. For those who signed up to shop for one or more persons, you will receive the name and wishlist of your family member(s) from Carla by November 22.

Supporting our Mennonite Schools

schoolsBerkey students attending Mennonite schools continue to be blessed with your financial support. Your contribution to one of our designated education funds provides ongoing support for our current students and also insures future opportunities for the growing number of children in our congregation. Here are two ways that you can help:
  1. Bethany Christian Schools: We are now collecting money for the 2020-21 school year. Currently we have nine students attending Bethany; next year we expect the number to remain the same. Please mark your contribution for Bethany Schools and place it in the offering.
  2. Mennonite Colleges/Seminaries: Our goal is to contribute $500 per semester for Berkey students who request aid. Giving to this fund is financially prudent because the colleges match all contributions dollar for dollar. Very few investments double your money like this does. While there is not a current need for this fund, accumulated amounts will benefit future students. Contributions should be marked for the college fund and placed in the offering.
Your contributions to either of these funds is tax deductible. If you have questions, please contact the office.

Community Announcements

Anabaptist Disabilities Network

November is National Family Caregivers Month. Caregivers often sacrifice their own well-being for the sake of others. What can we do to appreciate and support family caregivers this month and all year? Here are a few ideas.

Pathways Retreat

During the month of November, Pathways Retreat's Tuesday prayer readings focus on remembering and giving thanks for those who stand beside us past and present. Joyce Rupp says, "As I grow older, I feel increasingly in touch with my spiritual ancestors. I believe the bond we had with our loved ones when they were alive remains firm even though they are no longer physically with us. When I celebrate All Saints Day, I honor not only the officially canonized saints of the church but all dear persons whose lives reflect goodness (God-ness)." Learn more.

Church Community Services

Join Soup of Success, a program of Church Community Services for a benefit, Soup and Stories. Hear Soup of Success graduates' powerful inspirational stories of hope and courage in a monologue style performance. The event will be Thursday, November 14 at Trinity on Jackson (2715 E Jackson Blvd., TLC Center, in the back of the building). Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for soup samples and shopping; the performance begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets  are $25 (must be 18-years-old or older)  Learn more and purchase tickets online or call 574-523-1551.
