It's November and our SPMHA teams are just starting to find their groove. Many teams have already hit the road in search of tournament glory, and we're over halfway through the opening round. It's a great time to update you all on what's going on in and around the association!

Sherwood Park Minor Hockey is honoured and excited to partner with The Sherwood Park Crusaders in developing youth in hockey.
Together, we are launching the Crusaders Ambassador Program, which will pair one Crusader Player as an Ambassador with each SPMHA team from Novice to Peewee for the season. Each player will attend one practice per month from the months of November to February. The Ambassador will also attend one minor hockey home game throughout the season. He will be available to give some advice in the dressing room before or during the game (at the coach’s discretion of course!)
Each Cru Ambassador will also welcome his team to a Crusaders home game!
Each team will receive tickets to attend a Crusaders home game of their choice (not including playoffs), and immediately after the game, the team’s ambassador will give a tour of the Crusaders dressing room and provide an opportunity for autographs!
We will be assigning players to their teams shortly, and your Cru Ambassador will be added to your TeamSnap team so that they can communicate with coaches and players as well as get access to the team schedule so they can plan to attend one of you team practices this month.
This is an great opportunity for the Crusaders to connect and provide mentorship to our young SPMHA athletes. We're excited to have them on board!

Our player development sessions are moving along quite nicely and we're getting fantastic feedback from the families that are taking advantage of them. Remember that you can sign up for single sessions throughout the season through our registration links. Single session registration opens for the upcoming week on Mondays at 7am,

The Sherwood Park Atom Barons and Arrows hosted a tournament in beautiful Banff, Alberta the weekend of October 25-27.
The tournament was fantastic and we received great feedback from all teams.
The kids had a lot of fun and they had great games and some really close ones! The Arrows finished strong with a bronze medal win over St. Albert, and the Barons fought hard, but lost 5-4 against a great Vernon team in the gold medal game. An excellent showing by our Sherwood Park Atom teams!

SPMHA hosted a development Hotstove and PEP Certification sessions back in September and there was a wealth of hockey knowledge on display. Speakers included Joe Quinn (Founder of PEP), Justin Fesyk (Sr. Manager of Hockey Development - Hockey Alberta), and Fran Gow (Coach Mentor, Hockey Alberta). Many coaches and parents attended to learn more about Intro to Hockey, moving from community to Elite Stream Hockey, and the PEP training system. The hotstove was hosted right beside our SPMHA office at the Ottewell Art Barn. What a great facility! We will look to host similar events in the future, so keep a lookout!

SPMHA TO HOST
CONCUSSION SAFETY SEMINAR

One of the things that can derail the enjoyment of hockey is injury.
Concussion is one of the most complex injuries in the game and our understanding of this injury continues to evolve. SPMHA & Hockey Alberta are committed to creating a safe and fun environment for all participants. As part of this commitment, Hockey Alberta has created a new presentation focusing on concussions. The presentation, which is approximately two hours, features information from industry experts and guidance from professionals with a broad range of medical knowledge.
The goal of this presentation is to provide a standard message in an interactive manner that allows attendees to expand their knowledge of concussion and recovery from this injury. Key topics covered include:
- What is a concussion and what are the common causes?
- What does recovery from a concussion look like?
- What are the expectations from Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada for returning to play from a concussion?
This presentation is free to all SPMHA members.
