It has been so wonderfully busy around Fairmount these past few months, and there is so much we'd like to share with you all!

Campus & Young Adult Ministry Update

We have had an exciting and blessed fall getting to reconnect with returning students, but also getting to know new ones. There have been many opportunities for our students to connect in fellowship, to grow in their faith together, and to serve in their community. Here are just a couple highlights from this fall:

Goodie Bags & Student Involvement Fair: Saturday, Aug. 17, Thrivent Member Network - Kansas/Missouri Region hosted a Super Action Team. At the event, Thrivent Members made 200 goodie bags that were handed out on campus on Aug. 28 at the Student Involvement Fair. Inside each bag was a loot full of treats and practical items (like laundry & body soap), a Thrivent & Fairmount Coffee travel mug that gets them free drip coffee for the fall semester, and an invitation to our fall bbq kick-off. The entire project, from start to finish, was outstanding. We certainly saw God's hand through it all. Thank you, Thrivent, for your partnership in this venture. We are still seeing fruits from these two events' labors. CLICK HERE FOR ACTION TEAM PICS

Party on the Patio: We kicked off the new semester with a fall bbq. We had a blast reconnecting with our old friends and making new ones. We were thrilled to lose count after 40 students went through the food line! Many of who have come to join us in our Tuesday evening College & Young Adult Bible study! CLICK HERE FOR PICTURES!

Habitat for Humanity: Our students and young adults have decided to get out into our community to serve and to show Jesus' love through their actions. In October, ten members of the Fairmount Family worked on the home of a local Wichita woman. Our team worked alongside other volunteers and the homeowner to install sheetrock. Pictured here is the morning shift of volunteers. CLICK HERE FOR MORE PICS!

Finals Survival Kits: We give thanks for the Wichita-Zone of KS LWML! This past month, ladies from the Lutheran Women's Missionary League in and around the Wichita area, gathered items and assembled 100 Finals Survival Kits for our students! We will be handing them out the week before finals. Thank you to our sisters that made this project possible. CLICK HERE FOR PICS!

This Month's News:

As you can see, there are never dull moments at Fairmount! In this month's update, we share a beautiful moment where we were reminded of God's faithful provision along with an update from our 60th Birthday Celebration. We also share some ways that you can get involved! Yes, a large focus of our mission here at Fairmount is Campus & Young Adult Ministry, but there are opportunities for any age to get involved here.

The Gathering: 60 Years of Celebration

On Friday, Sept. 20, we hosted The Gathering, a celebration and fundraiser in honor of 60 years of LCMS Campus Ministry at Wichita State University. The event was at Eberly Farms in west Wichita. The 112 guests in attendance were members & ministry leaders from local LCMS congregations & the Kansas District, students & young adults who are active participants with Fairmount Ministries, and Wichita community members.

The celebration began with live music and good ole' fashioned fellowship. After a delicious meal of bbq, local KWCH 12 Meteorologist Mark Larson emceed the program. Past ministry leaders and council members were honored and 60 years of volunteer service was celebrated. The evening raised nearly $10,000 for Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Company! It was a truly blessed evening and touching to hear the memories of this long-standing LCMS Campus Ministry.

The turnout and support were overwhelming, and we hope to make The Gathering an annual event! Thank you to our amazing community for love and support. Thank you to our outstanding volunteers who made this event possible and a huge success. Praises to our Lord for His continued blessing on our ministry.

A God Moment

At October's Table, God gave us a little moment to celebrate his goodness and faithful provision.

The 2nd Saturday evening of each month, we come together for community, a meal, devotion, prayer, and praise. The event is called The Table: a Community Gathering and is open to all!

If we are 100% transparent, leading up to this month's Table we were a bit discouraged because the music fell through (we typically have a band lead us in a few songs of praise). We wrestled with what we were going to do and how could we possibly have this event without music. After much consideration, we decided that we would discuss at The Table the different ways that we can praise God...not just through music.

Then God did something pretty amazing...

That week, Lindsborg was celebrating its annual Swedish Festival. A Lutheran pastor and his student were visiting from Sweden, specifically to attend the festival. They were in Wichita that evening and were looking for something to do. They found The Table on social media and decided to drop by.

Pastor Lars and Edit walked through our doors, still wearing the traditional Swedish attire from the festival. That day, at the festival, Edit had sung a traditional hymn and offered to sing it for us!

We sat in awe. That morning, concerned that we would not have music, we had decided to move forward in faith, knowing that there were many different ways to praise our Lord. Later that night, God sent us a song of praise...all the way from Sweden.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Prayers for Fairmount

Would you pray for us? Here are some of our prayer needs:
  • Students: as they gear up for the end of the fall semester. Pray for endurance, perseverance, good health, and to remain focused.
  • Our facility. Over the summer, we've had a few leaks in our roof, and we've discovered that we will need a new roof and a new HVAC system (2 new air conditioners). Please pray for God's continued provision for our ministry.
  • Give thanks for 60 years of LCMS ministry at WSU!
  • Our Campus Ministry: that the Lord provides opportunities to talk with students about faith and the grace that comes through a relationship with Christ!
  • Give thanks for our faith community, who continues to show up through their time, treasures, and talents. We are so grateful for our amazing volunteers!
  • For our staff and volunteers to remain "on-fire" and to walk in faithfulness.
  • That the Lord would inspire more people to become monthly donors &/or get involved with Fairmount Ministries.
  • Thanksgiving for the many blessings and provisions He has given us daily!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We at Fairmount Ministries and Coffee Co. appreciate your willingness to serve in our ministry. We now have a Volunteer Coordinator, Vicki Lessman, who is tasked with recruiting new volunteers and placing new/current volunteers. In our efforts to grow our volunteer base, we need more information.

Please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey for us. The survey asks questions about your talents, passions, availability, and how you'd like to serve. Thank you so much for your continued interest in serving with Fairmount.

Become a Monthly Sustaining Partner

When we started the venture of Fairmount Coffee Co. two years ago, we were advised by many business consultants that most small businesses do not break even in their first 5 years of operations. So, it is not alarming that the coffeehouse ministry is not breaking even at this time. However, we are constantly working to improve our processes and make our ministry as sustainable as possible. One way to do this is by consistently evaluating our operations and making vital tweaks to products, procedures, pricing, labor costs, etc. The other way to make Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Co. a sustainable ministry is through your donations!

One of our financial goals is to increase our monthly gifts to $6,000 per month!

Would you please prayerfully consider becoming a sustaining partner with our ministry?
Visit https://fairmountministries.churchcenter.com/giving and choose "Regularly" under "Frequency" to give monthly to Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Co. or mail checks to 3815 E 17th St. N., Wichita, KS 67208.

Thrivent Choice Dollars

This year we have received over $3,500 through your Thrivent Choice Dollars designations. This is a HUGE blessing to our ministry, and we can't say thank you enough for thinking of us when you designated your funds!

Want to designate your Choice Dollars to Fairmount? You can designate Fairmount as easy as using this link. You can search for us under the name Fairmount Ministries, however, don't be alarmed when you see the name UNIVERSITY LUTHERAN MINISTRY ASSOCIATION upon your search retrieval (that's our 501c3 name).

If you run into a snag, reach out to us or your local Thrivent Representative. We're grateful for Thrivent's and your support through Thrivent Choice Dollars!!
Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we seek to provide opportunities to foster relationships, encourage community, and promote dialogue about faith and life, for the university and the community in order to bring people closer to Jesus Christ.

We could not continue to do our ministry without the generosity of our faithful donors. Please consider making Fairmount Ministries a part of your planned giving.
