A Mosque Planter Comes To Jesus!

Hump Day - Day Of Prayer For The Muslim World Vol. 115

They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy." And they praised God because of me. Galatians 1:23-24

Imam
  • An Arabic word meaning "to stand in front of"
  • A man who stands in front of Muslim worshipers and leads them during prayer and the speaking of sermons
Obviously, Imams are among the foremost of leaders in the Islamic community. Recently, Jay spoke with a former Imam who had given his life to Jesus. Here is his story.

Pedigree And Prodigy
Coming from a family of Imams, this former Imam was somewhat of a prodigy. At a young age, he had memorized the Qur'an. In fact, he was so good that he won a medal for his Qur'anic recitation and melodious quality.

Additionally, he speaks at least 6 languages. He is a savant.

Power, Propaganda And Persecutor
Due to his prodigious abilities, this man became an Imam while still quite young.

Fueled by the disgusting propaganda he learned from his youth about Christians, this Imam used his newly found power to persecute. Christians were unclean scum, and the Imam led others in the persecution of the "infidels" in his home nation.

Purpose
This man's zeal and talents did not go unnoticed by Muslim leaders, and he was given a new purpose. They sent him across the world as a missionary / mosque planter for the work of spreading Islam. The Imam was on his way to Islamic glory!

People, Prayer And Re-purposed
However, while in his new capacity in a new country, the former Imam began doubting Islam. In secret, he studied other religions, and eventually he came to Christ for salvation. Jesus became his life and passion, and serving Him was without reservation.

He believes two factors had major impact on his coming to Jesus:
  • The extraordinary unconditional love of 2 followers of Jesus
  • The simple prayer in Jesus' name by a poor Christian street cleaner
Persecution Of The Former Persecutor
Persecution often awaits any Muslim who becomes a follower of Jesus, but what about for a former Imam? Like with the Apostle Paul (II Corinthians 11:23-26), persecution has been intense - in his home country and abroad. Consider what he's endured:
  • Rejected and beaten by family
  • Both legs and both arms have been broken
  • Beaten by 20 men
  • Survived an assault rifle attack
  • Kidnapped, stabbed and once left for dead
What has kept him going? His faith is strong, as Jesus has sustained him and appeared to him on multiple occasions. He has counted the cost and is totally committed to Jesus!

Today's Prayer Points
  1. Pray for the Imams of the Islamic world. Pray for those Imams who are secretly struggling with their Muslim beliefs. May they seek the LORD with all their heart and find Him in the arms of His grace.(Jeremiah 29:13). May they learn the things about Him that they have never known before (Jeremiah 33:3) and love Him with all their heart, mind, soul and strength (Mark 12:30)
  2. Pray for Muslim missionaries and mosque planters. May the LORD send His laborers to encounter them and love them into the Kingdom of God (John 15:12)
  3. May these Muslim missionaries and mosque planters be re-purposed as they are born again. May their gifts and talents be redeemed for His Kingdom purposes. (II Corinthians 5:17-20)

Thank you for praying with us today. May the world be forever changed because your prayers!

Dream so big only Jesus can make it happen!
