Months before he was born, Dorian Brown’s mother had an intense craving for smoked fish. Barbara emigrated from Germany to Baltimore the year prior, and had developed an affinity for the cured seafood during frequent trips to Scandinavia. When she couldn’t find any in Baltimore, she started smoking her own salmon in the backyard. Eventually, she started selling it at the local farmer’s market.  From Uniform to Apron, Still Serving
Once you've perfected the science of making your bed military-style, precisely following a scone recipe comes rather naturally. Dog Tag Bakery is a small but mighty cafe at 3206 Grace Street that hires wounded veterans and their spouses to complete a program that provides work experience and tailored curriculum at the School of Continuing Studies at Georgetown University. During the day, veterans operate all aspects of the bakery, while also studying to eventually start their own small business. Meet and exchange stories with the fellows this Veteran's Day (Monday, Nov. 11), thank them for their service, and enjoy a free coffee with any purchase from 10:30 am - Noon.
