Regional Connections Abound as Cooksey Celebrates 25th Anniversary

Cooksey Communications recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with an open house at its Irving headquarters attended by more than 100 clients, alumni and agency friends. To commemorate the occasion, Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer presented a proclamation on behalf of the City declaring Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, as “Cooksey Communications Day.” Thanks to all who were able to join us for this momentous occasion!

Cooksey Earns Six MarCom Awards in Marketing and Communication Competition

Cooksey recently received three Platinum and three Gold honors in the 2019 MarCom Creative Awards, a prestigious international marketing and communication competition. The six awards highlight Cooksey’s diverse and successful experience in strategic communications, creative design, media relations and more. Platinum honors, the top award, are reserved for only about 15% of entries worldwide!

P L A T I N U M 
  • Strategic Communications (Research/Study) – City of Georgetown. Cooksey performed a comprehensive audit of the City’s communications program, benchmarked its efforts and resources against peer cities, conducted interviews and focus groups, and helped the City develop and analyze a survey gauging resident feedback. Based on this research, Cooksey developed strategic recommendations to enhance public engagement and incorporate best-in-class communications techniques.
  • Print Media (Design) – TREC (The Real Estate Council). Cooksey was honored for its design of the TREC FightNight invitation and creative suite of collateral. FightNight has grown into one of North Texas’ largest philanthropic events.
  • Print Media (Magazine) – Hillwood. Cooksey was recognized for its planning, writing and design of the 32-page, four-color magazine produced for the 30th anniversary of AllianceTexas, a development of Hillwood.

  • Strategic Communications (Media Kit) – Crystal Lagoons®. Crystal Lagoons® builds and maintains crystalline lagoons of unlimited sizes, offering an idyllic beach lifestyle anywhere in the world. Cooksey created a media kit that powerfully and visually describes the company and its current and future developments. 
  • Media Relations/Publicity (Online Placement) – Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP – Dallas. Cooksey was recognized for its writing and placement of an article entitled “Remember The 5 D’s of Dodgeball – Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive And Donate” in Texas Lawbook. The article was bylined by David Gail, a Dallas-based partner in Weil’s Corporate department.
  • Media Relations/Publicity (Magazine Placement). Cooksey contributed to development of an article in DCEO Magazine titled “Irving’s Next Act.” This six-page article featured two of Cooksey’s clients, Toyota Music Factory and Texican Court.
MarCom entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies and freelancers. The competition has grown to perhaps the largest of its kind in the world. MarCom Awards is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP).

Gail Cooksey was included for the second year in DCEO Magazine’s Dallas 500 list of the most powerful and influential business leaders in North Texas and is one of only 12 leaders recognized in the Marketing and Public Relations category. Unprecedented in scope, the Dallas 500 is the region’s highly selective biographical database of the people who truly run Dallas-Fort Worth business, based on extensive contacts in North Texas business circles, hundreds of interviews and months of research.
Designer and art director Joel Rowe was promoted to creative director in October at Cooksey. He serves clients such as Hillwood, Frisco Station, The Real Estate Council, STEAMspark Montessori Experience, Region C Water Planning Group, GRS Consulting, City of Plano, City of Mesquite, City of Coppell and Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show. In his new role, Rowe will lead Cooksey’s award-winning Creative Department.
Andra Bennett, APR, joined Cooksey in October as an account manager. Previously, Bennett was vice president of communications for the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, where she directed marketing communications strategies for earned, owned and social media, member communications, events and publications.
Ashley Sears was promoted to account supervisor in September. She serves clients such as the Bell Fort Worth Alliance Air Show, City of Mesquite, City of Richardson, Richardson Economic Development Partnership, Jackson-Shaw, Northeast Tarrant Transportation Summit, Tarrant Regional Transportation Coalition, Skanska USA and Texican Court.
Cooksey Vice President Michelle Hargis, president-elect of the Public Relations Society of America’s Austin Chapter, represented the local chapter in October at the association’s National Leadership Rally and Leadership Assembly in San Diego. She then represented Cooksey at PRSA’s International Conference (ICON), which provided an opportunity to discuss the latest industry issues, learn about the most recent trends, and adopt tools and skills that are being shared with the Cooksey team.
