Dear <<First Name>>

This month I am revealing the 'face' of my new book - the design for the jacket.

For authors, the moment before you open the email with the cover pic is stressful! What if the publishers have given your ‘baby’ a design that you hate?

It has happened to me over the years so I always hold my breath when I get the email through… and luckily, this time I loved the cover for The House Share. What do you think?
Pre-order the book now
The book’s out on May 2020 and it’s available for pre-order – but as a member of my Book Club you get a super-long extract to read right now. Download the first 30 pages right here.

News from my writing desk:

my (latest) new identity!

I’ve just finished edits on the first book under yet another new identity. This book, HOW TO SAVE A LIFE, is an epic love story – my agent describes it as One Day meets E.R. (though I am more of a Grey’s Anatomy addict).

On millennium night, a teenager dies for 18 minutes – before being brought back to life by two other teens from his old school. A miracle? Maybe, but what happens that night will affect them for 18 years.

We ‘sold’ rights to the book in the summer – it was submitted to publishers on what would have been my mum’s 78th birthday. We decided because it’s so different to what I’d written before, I’d have a brand new name. It's partly because when readers go online, it can be confusing to see lots of types of book by the same person. And as someone who regularly writes in lots of genres, I probably have this problem more than most authors!

The edits I’ve just finished are structural – that means my editors, in the UK and USA, have told me parts where they want to know more about certain characters and their lives – and where to cut bits that get boring… it’s a real privilege to get other people’s opinions, I’ve never been precious about making a story better!

Watch this space for more on the book very soon – including how it was inspired by my own experience of giving CPR.

What I'm loving: November

Reading:
The Vanished Bride by Bella Ellis a.k.a. Rowan Coleman.

Imagine if the Bronte family had become amateur detectives in between writing their amazing stories? That’s the gorgeous idea behind this fab book – it’s tense, witty, joyful. Even better, it’s a series. Perfect wintry reading...
Watching:
Tell Me Who I Am on Netflix has all the tension and family drama of the best novel – but it’s true. Remarkable story of two brothers and incredible secrets. Gritty and moving.

I was glued to it on Netflix. If you were too, reply to this email and tell me what you thought.

PS: if you’re a writer, as well as a reader, I've written a book all about pitching, perfect if you've been working on NaNoWriMo! It's available for pre-order now, out December 6.
