Trick or Treat, The KC Streetcar Fleet is Complete!

(Kansas City, Missouri) – After weeks of testing, KC Streetcar’s newest vehicle, #806, is ready for passengers.

Passengers can expect to board the new KC Streetcar #806 this week.  Kansas City’s fifth and sixth streetcars arrived in 2019 nearly two years after their initial order.  The purchase of these streetcar vehicles was approved in 2017 by the City Council, using the existing downtown Transportation Development District (TDD) funds, resulting from higher than anticipated sales tax growth within the district and stabilized operations expenses. Each streetcar vehicle cost $4.9 million.

“The expansion of our fleet from five to six streetcars will support increased service frequencies and capacity in order to respond to the existing demand,” said Tom Gerend, executive director of the KC Streetcar Authority.  “The addition of a sixth streetcar allows us to operate four streetcars every Saturday throughout the year and the flexibility to perform regular maintenance on our entire fleet,” continued Gerend.
