By Cass Jenks

Emergencies crop up only rarely on our walking holidays, but we’re always on hand to provide helpful, professional support. We make sure of that with our annual training days.

What does our emergency training entail? There are two halves: the field portion, which tests our navigational skills on the ground, and the in-office portion, where staff respond to emergency scenarios as the current field group calls them in.

By Beth Pipe

Whitehaven is much maligned and often ignored, and it doesn’t tick quite all the boxes for ‘pretty little seaside town’, but it is a rather wonderful place and has made more of an impact on the world than most of its prettier rivals.

It’s right at the start of the Coast to Coast and well worth adding a day or so onto your itinerary to explore it further.

Contours Takes Part in the
World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

The Contours team thoroughly enjoyed hosting our second annual Macmillan Coffee Morning at the end of September. Lots of delicious, homemade treats were shared while we played fun games and had a wonderful time. Thank you to Laura in the Booking Team for once again organising this fabulous event, and a huge thank you to everyone for donating generously; we are delighted to have successfully raised £145 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

Did you know?

November is a busy time
for UK mammals

Foxes tend to be active this month as cubs begin to disperse to look for their own territory in time for breeding season.

Many of our smaller mammals are also busy, either stocking their larders for the winter (bank voles, wood mice and squirrels, for example) or eating as much as they can to put on sufficient weight to see them through hibernation (such as bats, dormice and hedgehogs).
