Moments that mattered this fall...
When reflecting on the season of autumn, the beauty of vibrant fall colours often comes to mind. Fall at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth brought many beautiful moments, creating lasting memories for residents and their families as well as our staff:
- Our 30th resident recently moved into the Hospice
- Approximately 15 guests joined their loved ones for a delicious Thanksgiving dinner whipped up by our Kitchen Coordinator, Michael
- 80 people volunteered to decorate Smile Cookies at the three Stratford Tim Hortons' locations - that amounts to about 175 hours! We are eagerly awaiting the fundraising results and will share them with you when they are available - stay tuned...
- Our first Hospice Halloween was light on the "tricks" but heavy on the "treats" with staff and volunteers taking part in a costume parade to the delight of our residents and their families - a few of whom surprised us with costumes of their own

What a Night at Handbags for Hospice!
On October 24th, more than 200 guests and almost 40 volunteers gathered to celebrate our inaugural Handbags for Hospice. After the money has been counted and expenses paid, we are beyond thrilled to announce that the event netted just over…
$75,000!
 It goes without saying that our hearts are overflowing with thanks to each of you who attended along with those of you who supported the event – in so many ways - behind the scenes. We are also excited to share that our presenting sponsor, Peter Hansford & Amanda Hansford of BMO Nesbitt Burns, have committed to being our presenting sponsor for the 2nd Annual Handbags for Hospice and that Sherri Hazzard of The Hearing Center has also signed back on as Golden Ticket Raffle sponsor.
This will become an annual fundraising event, and we are already looking at a larger (but still intimate) venue for our 2nd Annual Handbags for Hospice! As soon as a date and location have been chosen, we will be sure to share the details. 
Lastly, and most importantly, our sincerest thanks to our small but mighty committee for their tremendous dedication to ensuring a most successful event: Maggie Harris, as event chair; Heather Bryan, our silent auction coordinator; and Foundation board member Katherine Hewitt. Their volunteer commitment went far above and beyond. We will be forever grateful to them for establishing Handbags for Hospice for our Rotary Hospice!

Did you know...it is common practice at hospices to keep the front door locked, just as you would at home, given this is now home for our residents. That said, visitors are welcome any time!
If you ring the doorbell between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. any day of the week, one of our wonderful Reception Volunteers will greet you and ask you to sign in. The doorbell looks like an intercom and in fact, is one. It rings into both the reception desk phone and the Care Centre phone so that staff on duty can see and hear from the person at the front entrance. Be sure to smile - for those of us of a certain age, think "Smile, you're on Candid Camera"!!

Raffle Results!
In our last e-newsletter, we told you about a generous donation from artist Denise Nonomura of one her original paintings. It was raffled off at the Dragon Boat Festival on September 14th and the lucky winner was local Rotarian Ralph Robinson. Ralph chose to pay it forward and donated this beautiful work back to the Hospice. It is hanging in the library nook where its bright colours and hopeful theme will bring joy to all who visit.

Shout out to...
...our amazing In-House Volunteers! Creating a comfortable home-like atmosphere at our residential hospice requires a great many willing hands. In October our volunteers gave a whopping 929 hours:
- 39 Administration Support hours
- 357 hours of Direct Support to residents and their families
- 171 Kitchen Support hours
- 362 Reception hours
Next time you are visiting The Hospice take a moment to thank our volunteers...they are a very special group of people and we couldn't do it without them!

Getting into the Holiday Spirit!
