Working Together to end hunger through healthy food, education and leadership.

A Room Full of Inspiration and Information

Dignity Health Dominican guests look on as they are invited to compete with Sutter Health/Palo Alto Medical Foundation to see who can raise the most meals this year.

Second Harvest Food Bank is about to enter its most intense two months of the year, in which it encourages and empowers the community to organize the dozens of local food and fund drives throughout the county which together are the Holiday Food & Fund Drive. County business, civic, and community leaders and activists came together on November 7th at Twin Lakes Church in Aptos to launch this annual campaign at the annual Kick-Off Lunch.

The drive is Second Harvest’s biggest of the year, and 100% of proceeds raised will go to its network of 200 pantries, soup kitchens, recovery centers, assisted living homes, and food and nutrition programs throughout the county. Every month, 55,000 residents of Santa Cruz County depend upon food provided by Second Harvest and its agencies.

At the event, the community heard from speakers including Chris Murphy, President of the Santa Cruz Warriors, Pastor Rene Schlaepfer, Twin Lakes Church, Jocelyn MacNeil, KAZU, among other successful organizers of past community food drives. Strategies and ideas were shared and inspiration abounded throughout the room.  Read More...

Grey Bears Community Shows it's Stuff

In the cold early hours of a Thursday morning in Santa Cruz County, a large group of community members make the trek from all over the area to the Grey Bears facility on Chanticleer in Santa Cruz.  They come with smiles, laughter, and a determination to sort, pack, load, and deliver thousands of food bags to area residents who are 55 and older, some of whom are home bound.  This happens every Thursday and Friday morning, rain or shine.  The volunteers here are building relationships, having fun, and feeding hope…all at the same time.  Read more...
