November 2019 Newsletter

From Mr. Phillips, Head of School

Last month our teachers attended the ACSI Professional Development Forum in Atlanta. The theme for the forum was “Innovate.” I know that our teachers came away excited about new ideas to use in the classroom, but we all were challenged spiritually as well. One of the topics in one of our sessions was “Clear Focus.” After hearing the message on “Clear Focus,” I know our hearts were challenged to focus more on Christ and who he has placed in front of us here at Curtis Baptist School, which is our students. As we enter the Thanksgiving season, please know that we all here are thankful for every student and family that God has sent our way.

- Mr. Scott Phillips, Head of School

Daycare & Preschool News

The Thanksgiving "season" has started. Similar to the season of fall, this "season" in daycare and preschool has brought about many exciting changes. We have been humbled to embrace new families with the opening of our new two-year-old classroom. Teachers and students have been "falling" into their Christ-centered curriculum and the beginnings of their phonetic and math basics. Truly, we could not do this without all of you as our Curtis family. The support and encouragement  we receive from you is priceless. Our gratitude goes out to each and every one of you for entrusting your children to us daily. During this "Thanksgiving" season we not only desire to give thanks to you but to our God who holds everything together. Thanksgiving celebrations in classes will be held this month. Please check in your child's classroom for any sign-ups and exact dates.

Elementary School News

The month of October was full of fun. From our first Pajama D.E.A.R. Day, to dressing up pumpkins (or gourds) as our favorite book character and celebrating Unity Day, we have been busy on the Elementary side.  We dedicated classroom and Unity Day (October 23) activities to bring awareness to bullying and how we can make good choices and choose to "be a friend, not a bully". Our students really enjoyed and fully engaged in the activities.

Elementary students are continuing to learn about the Fruit of the Spirit throughout the classroom and Chapel; it's wonderful to see them grow in the Spirit and share their love for God with each other.

Coming up in November is our Elementary Veteran's Day Program. Families are welcome to join us in this celebration in the Sanctuary on Monday, November 11, at 8:15 am.  We look forward to seeing you.

I am proud to serve the CBS Family each and every day.

- Mrs. Lisa Ingle, Elementary School Principal

Middle & High School News

As we enter this Thanksgiving season, the Curtis family has much to be grateful for.  As you can gather from the information in the newsletter, the Lord continues to bless us with opportunities to learn, grow, and serve.  Two examples of learning, growing, and serving are our latest Student of the Month Award recipients: Lily Crane (Middle School) and Anna Davis (High School). Congratulations to these young ladies for being nominated for the award by their teachers.

May you and your family enjoy this Thanksgiving seasons as you take time to count your blessings.

- Mr. Larry Ford, Middle and High School Principal

Operation Christmas Child

We are excited to partner once again with Samaritan’s Purse this year to participate in Operation Christmas Child! This ministry is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus with children all over the world in a very simple way. We will have shoeboxes available that we ask you to pick up and fill with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items. Every gift-filled shoe box is an opportunity for a child to hear the gospel, possibly for the first time. Each child who receives a shoe box will be given a children’s Bible in their language and invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, a 12-lesson discipleship program where children will learn to faithfully follow Christ and share their faith with others. Empty shoe boxes can be picked up in the daycare hall or any of the school offices and ministry center. We will be holding a combined chapel for the school on Tuesday, November 19, for students to bring in shoeboxes and pray over them before they are sent off. All shoeboxes must be turned in by Monday, November 25, no later than 12 pm to ensure that they are sent off to the sorting facility in time. Please email Meagan Jones at mjones@curtisbaptist.org with any questions or if any additional information is needed.

SCRIP Zone

The SCRIP fundraising program offers gift cards from hundreds of national and local retailers. When you place an order for a card(s) (at face value) with CBS, the school gets a percentage of the sale.
