Dr. Lamarr Darnell Shields will open up our conference by setting the stage to discuss centering youth in all our work. He will give a powerful testimony on creating equity in partnership for young people by reiterating the necessity of pushing for a greater future by uplifting youth.

Advocacy and Organizing
These workshops will dive deep into how to garner support for expanding opportunities and improving youth outcomes by designing effective campaigns, building coalition, and leveraging relationships with elected officials.
Centering Youth in Youth Work
Relationship building is at the center of youth work. These workshops will highlight youth centered or youth-led strategies for effective youth programming and/or discuss exemplary youth-led program models.
Equity and Inclusion
Equity and inclusion are critical components to expanding opportunities for youth. These workshops will examine how to build an organizational culture and design programming that values, celebrates and includes youth of all identities and abilities.
Healthy Behaviors for Youth & Practitioners
These workshops will focus on the healthy development of youth and of the practitioners who serve them through topics such as: Healthy Relationships, Positive Youth Development, Community Building, Restorative Practices, Self-Care, Physical Health, Mental Health.
Organizational Capacity
These workshops will go over Fundraising/Sustainability, Human Resources best practices, Strategic Planning/Organizational growth, Efficient technologies, Board Development and more effective leadership strategies
Partnership Development
Topics in these workshops will cover: how to build cross sector/cross organizational partnerships, including private sector engagement, engaging parents and families, how to sustain and maintain partnerships, and how to evaluate partnerships.
Innovations Mini-Track
This track will explore innovations in youth development such as stand-out curriculum, technologies, etc. that help make the work better and more efficient
Workshops Spotlights
Using Play-Based Strategies to Effectively Manage Groups
Lead presenter Danielle Marshall will explore five key group management strategies that adults can use to set students up for successful group behavior. Youth who exhibit challenging behaviors often require more attention and support, this workshop provides educators with strategies to refocus youth and tools to address disruptive behaviors.
RISE UP: Resiliency in School Environments Understanding and Practice
Presenter Rachael Wooden will utilize an arts-based approach to engage adults working in schools and youth-serving organizations. Providing a safe learning environment for educators to practice trauma-sensitive skills that build confidence and improve capacity in their interaction with students and themselves; helping educators “find joy in their practice.”
Suspending Justice: Promoting Equity in Maryland Schools
Presenter Aarti Sidhu will discuss the history of disciplinary policy and exclusionary discipline in Maryland. She will outline the current disciplinary process, due process rights of students, valid alternatives to suspension, and close with an interactive session about additional possible alternatives and possible means of advocacy.
