Meet a WE Biker: Gigi Agius
Every volunteer brings something special to our organization. And WE count on them—whether they’re leading our rides or writing our newsletters or responding to mail or building our website. This month's volunteer is Gigi Agius, WE Bike NYC's Director of Finance/Legal. Get to know her here!

What was your first WE Bike NYC ride?
The first WE Bike NYC event I attended was the 2013 Cold Weather Riding Workshop. It was led by the incredible Laura Solis and Ayesha McGowen. It was also where I met the wonderful Diane Jones Randall -- we later both started volunteering with WE Bike NYC and are now on the board -- amazing to think how far we've come!
What's your favorite route?
It's hard to pick just one! I love riding to the beach in the summer, but I think my favorite routes in the NYC area are long rides up River Road or 9W towards Nyack. I love spending the day on my bike, on a challenging long ride with friends.
What do you ride?
I have so many bikes! I ride a hybrid commuter, a road bike, a track fixed gear racing bike, and a street fixed gear bike. I love them all but my favorite to ride this year was my track bike, a Specialized Allez Sprint. In the spring I attended a beginners track racing clinic at the Kissena Velodrome and fell in love with riding fast on the track. Not long after I started racing at the velodrome and bought my track bike. It's been so fun, like learning to ride a bike all over again!
Why do you love WE Bike NYC?
All the amazing people I've met through the organization!! Some of my best friends in NY I met on WE Bike NYC rides. WE Bike NYC has made my life, both on and off the bike, so much richer. I can't imagine my life without it.

WE Can't Do It Without You!
WE Bike NYC is now an official 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. WE are still entirely volunteer-run, but it takes money for us to maintain our current standards of operation.
If you are looking for a way to support fun, free, noncompetitive bicycle events and programming specifically for women, please consider donating to WE Bike NYC!

Cranksgiving is a food drive on two wheels that is part scavenger hunt and part bike ride. Participants receive a manifest with ride instructions, choose their route, stopping at different markets in various neighborhoods looking for specific food items, then race to finish by the designated time.
Cranksgiving originated in 1999 in Manhattan as an alleycat with NYC bike messengers. Now, twenty-plus years later, there are Cranksgiving events all around the globe.
