Leonay Golf Member News
October 2019

Once again Leonay golfers and family will come together to celebrate the year's winners. Special guest speaker this year will be former NRL referee Greg McCallum, who is an avid golfer and recently appointed CEO of Springwood Country Club.

Tickets are available for purchase at the bar. We hope to see you all there..

Final Round of 2019 Club Championships
With just 1 round remaining there are still a number of players still in contention for the respective grade club championships. As it stands at the conclusion of the 3rd round we have David Moore holding a three shot lead in A Grade going into the final round, Craig Malvern with the same lead in B Grade, and Tony Muller with a handy 7 shots leading C Grade.
A reminder that the final 12 in each grade are draw together in a seeded draw with play to commence with C Grade from 10:16am. A full list of those in the seeded draw can be found here. Players who would normally tee off from 10:16am - 11:18am should check the time sheets for their revised tee time.
Good luck to everyone in the final round
Pink Day

On Wednesday the 18th of September, the Ladies Committee held their annual Pink Day to raise funds for Breast Cancer research. While the weather was not kind and certainly reduced the field, 78 brave souls still donned their pink-wear and ventured out onto the course for the Olympic Scramble event, and the fun began.

Despite the rain a fantastic day was had by all, and thanks to a lot of hard work from the Ladies, and very generous support from everyone (including a lot of people who didn't participate in the golf) the Buring room was turned pink for the presentation afterwards. Over $6800 was raised on the day, including raffles, donations from various businesses including Major Sponsor Wideline Windows and Doors, and $1000 from the Mens Committee. Special mention to both Ben Breckenridge and Andrew Moon who gave up their time by selling their considerable golfing skills on the day to raise extra funds.

Congratulations to everyone who supported the event, and especially the Ladies Golf Committee and assistants.
Mixed Foursomes Championship
Held over two consecutive Sundays every year in September is a grueling test of both patience and skill. The 2019 Mixed Foursomes Championship was narrowly won by Lynne and Laurie Cupples, with a scratch score of 159 over Judith Knox and Bruce Grant who finished with 163. In the Nett event, Judith and Bruce fell short by one shot finishing runner-up to Julie and Andrew Brockbank who had 136.

Thanks to all the participants for putting up with each other for two Sundays in a row, and hopefully by next year you'll be talking to each other again.
The 2019 Last Man Standing qualifying period has ended, and the event will be played on 17/11/19. The list of the 19 top players (and reserves) can be viewed here.

Congratulations to the qualifiers, and also everyone who entered the competition. Make sure you leave this day open on your calendar to come out and spectate what has been described as the greatest sporting event in the world - ever!. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's like the Bathurst 1000, the Ryder Cup and a WWE cage-match all thrown in to one.
