Hi <<First Name>>,

Three legendary supercars share the spotlight this month with a tale about treasure hunters - all beautifully executed in an editorial style.

Together with Alex Bernstein our East Coast studio envisioned retired race cars cruising New York City, Stefan Milev captured the resurrected concept car 'Garmisch' for BMW, Julia Fullerton-Batten tells us about Mudlarkers in her ongoing series 'Old Father Thames' and Clemens Ascher uses a Maserati Khamsin as a stylish element in a fashion series for Bolero Magazine.

Enjoy the treats,

Christoph

Daily Drivers - Alex Bernstein

Daily Drivers

Built upon absurdity, a CGI project was dreamed up by our team in Brooklyn. New York City is a complicated place to have any car. Here in this alternate reality, a few legendary race cars break the boundaries of their purpose. Race car enthusiast Alex Bernstein jumped on the idea and roamed the city for us to stage these surreal scenarios, finding the perfect locations that provided depth and credibility.

All the cars are full CGI. Each model required heavy amounts of refinement, while we retextured and prepped them in the studio. Dust, grit, scrapes and raindrops were added to fully immerse these cars into their respective worlds. We captured domes from each location for proper reflections in the car. Finally, meticulous colour grading enhanced the light and shade of New York City and integrated the composited images. See all images on Behance and check out the making-of videos on our blog.

BMW Garmisch - Stefan Milev

BMW Garmisch - Stefan Milev

This one is an unusual story. Keeping track of your collectibles isn't always easy and sometimes things get lost. And so it happened to BMW's Garmisch concept car from 1970. The original has inexplicably disappeared, and BMW eventually decided to rebuild the vehicle by hand from the old blueprints, just in time to be unveiled once more at the Concorso d’Eleganza 2019 at Lake Como in Italy.

Matching the era, Stefan Milev shot this fine treasure mostly on Polaroid film, using a classic wooden 8 x 10 inch Deardorff camera.

Our Stuttgart team had the pleasure of scanning and grading the images to intensify the vintage feel of the series. See all images on our site and be sure to take a look behind the scenes on our blog.

Mudlarkers - Julia Fullerton-Batten

Mudlarkers - Julia Fullerton-Batten

During Victorian times in London, so called 'mudlarkers' - mostly impoverished children and old people - scavenged the exposed beaches during low tide for any treasures they could sell.

In her ongoing series 'Old Father Thames' Julia Fullerton-Batten revives this and other fascinating stories and historical moments that, over centuries, have washed ashore the banks of the river Thames. The photographer thoroughly researches her projects and pays painstaking attention to the era's details when choosing wardrobe and props.

Our London branch carefully colour graded the series, preserving the warm and gloomy cinematic look. Head to our website to see more of this particular series or check out the Julia Fullerton-Batten's website for her other tales of the river.

Bolero - Clemens Ascher

Bolero - Clemens Ascher

For Bolero magazine Clemens Ascher created an unusual fashion series, featuring a supercool Maserati Khamsin as a prop. The photographer used projections from imagery in his archive to create backdrops and to illuminate the scenes.

Strong primary colours and geometric shapes set the tone for this bold series that was balanced in post by our studio in London. More of this on Behance and on our website.
