Principal Corner
We are on the final stretch run of first trimester with three weeks remaining until the first grade period ends. Continue the excellent work with students! It is evident each day when I’m in the classrooms or walking the hallways that students are learning and engaged in the classroom activities. Growth is transpiring even if it doesn’t always feel that way through the struggles of the certain days. Be proud of all your work with students! They are lucky to have you leading them each school day…Thanks for being that difference maker at Westwood.
Admin Intern Report
As we continue our quest to Choose Happiness Daily I’d like to share a resource my sister told me about last weekend. Action for Happiness provides a website and free app that provides daily affirmations, monthly Action Calendars, along with several other resources. I have enjoyed receiving “happiness quotes” all week via the app. It is a great way to inspire reflection: https://www.actionforhappiness.org/ Have a wonderful and restful weekend!
Student Opportunity
Flyers for the Dexter R. Stanton Art & Essay Contest were placed in mailboxes last week. Deadline for application is December 6th. These will be shared at 7th Annual MLK Breakfast in January. All students in grades K-12 are welcome to make submissions. This information was also shared in The Notebook last week.
Orange Frog
To initiate change you should build in short term wins… (Start with small goals)

Holiday Gift Shop
Many of us have crafty talents and there is nothing better than homemade holiday gifts. It is also a lot of fun to see each others unique talents. During Thanksgiving week (November19-21), let’s open a holiday gift shop in the extended teacher’s lounge. Bring in your crafts with name and prices. Payments can be made directly to the crafter. This is a fun way to cross some people off your list and put a little holiday money in your wallet.
Veterans Day Program
Westwood will be hosting a Veterans Day program on November 11th at 10:00. Our 5th grade students will be participating in the event that day with Mr. Torvik leading the program. Grade level art is encouraged to be put up in the gym for decoration to honor the day.
Student Support
With Mrs. Murphy out of the building most Tuesdays from this point moving forward, please call the office with student support concerns that need to be handled. Mrs. Siers and I will handle the issues in a timely manner. BY calling the office first will help me, because they can reach me on the walkie. Sometimes I will be in observations and class visits, but the office will be able to reach me. We are trying not to schedule any formal observations on Tuesdays moving forward.
End of First Trimester
The official end to trimester one for the 2019-20 school year will be November 22nd. Report cards will go home on December 6th. I will provide the periods for grade window opening and closing within the next few weeks.
