Dirt Half Challenge

Great numbers of Redway Runners at the Dirt Half Challenge this Saturday.

We will go for a big green group photo outside the registration hall at 9.50am

Beginners graduation

Our seven beginners' groups that started in September graduated at the MK parkrun on Saturday 9 November 2019

Well done all, Milton Keynes parkrun recorded the 7th highest attendance at a UK parkrun Saturday with 704 finishers

Well done all - great if cold morning.

Cross Country - Tear Drops

Saturday was match two of the Chiltern Cross Country League at Tear Drop Lakes and we had a great turnout in very wet conditions with 82 Redway Runners showing in the results across the days races.

Genci was first in his age group and Rachel E third her age group

Massive thanks to Sue Boothby, Kerry Cooper, Steve Boothby and Terry Down who did a fab job marshalling in the cold and wet for us.

Also another big thanks as always to Stephen Scott and Douglas Yabsley for setting up the awesome tent for us! And to the people who stayed after in the rain to pack down Lisa Yabsley, Hannah Watkins Connelly and anyone else who stayed. We hugely appreciate all your support.

Chiltern League said 'Now that the dust has settled (or mud brushed off), a thank you to you all for coming out to Teardrop Lakes and running in (after 1pm) unpleasant conditions, we have not had much mud in recent seasons so good to experience XC weather!!!
Including all our guests and Cross Challenge athletes we had 1708 finishers which was 30 up on last year, but interestingly the male numbers were down by 36 overall (SM up by 15). Whereas the continuing trend is for the females to be increasing in numbers. Overall there were 65 more finishers this year at 773 (64 more SW) with the other age groups also up slightly with the exception of U15 girls which was 31 down.
A big thank you to all the Officials and Marshals who were out in that weather, and we look forward to seeing you at Stopsley Common, Luton in December.'

Big well done again to everyone.

Next match is 7 December at Luton (Stopsley Common). You can also find info on the Chiltern League website at any time - http://www.chilternccl.co.uk/

Fuengirola Half

We had lots of Redway Runners at the 4th Fuengirola half marathon on Sunday 3 November 2019

Great running by all on a very warm day, well done to Emily Bousfield (Picture below) who was third in female senior age category and won a trophy.

886 runners completed the race

Beginners 2020

Annette has been working with the Beginners run leads team to put together our next set of free beginners courses, these will be free again you will just need to be a member. (annual membership is £5)

Plans are coming together, and we are hoping to have groups starting 11 January 2020 working towards the Milton Keynes 5K parkrun on Saturday 21 March 2020

We hope to be announcing all the details and how to book in the middle of December 2019

RAF Henlow 10 Finale

Just a small group of Redway Runners took part in the very final RAF Henlow 10 mile race today.

Shame to see this iconic race ending after over 60 years of the event being held, a race that starts at one airfield and finishes at a different one and at halfway you are in Ireland.

Cannot find the race history that used to be published but sure a part of folk lore was that one year birds fell out of the sky during the event (something about a hard hailstorm and folks tales!!)

Anyway, the event ended with a special finishers tee and medal to commemorate this milestone

Personally, would add that these little gems of races need to be supported or they will disappear, know this race is going for other reason but...

Thanks to the hard work of everyone at RAF Henlow who have put on this excellent event over many years

Ramble

We had a group of 14 out for our ramble on Monday 11 November from the Plough in Simpson

Next one will be 2.15pm on Monday 9 December 2019 from KuKu Coffee House, 9A Bodmin Place, Broughton Gate MK10 7DP

We have a special offer for members after the walk a free cake with hot drinks or 20% Discount off food

So even more reason to come along and support this new coffee shop in Milton Keynes

Weekend success

As well as Genci being first in his age group and Rachel E third her age group at the Chiltern League Cross Country on Saturday

Jamie Farmer won the Tough Runner UK Cardiff trail half marathon on Sunday

Well done to all for weekend triumphs

MK Marathon weekend

Been asked to share this with you
----

Join the Mind BLMK team and help us raise funds to support our vital work in making a positive difference to the mental health and wellbeing of people living across Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes.

Next year, we are proud to be one of the Gold Charity sponsors of the Rightmove MK Marathon Weekend. You can run the full marathon, the Rocket 5K, or the half marathon for Mind BLMK this time. The MK marathon is one of the top 10 UK marathons and we have 40 places across all 3 races for people to take part.

Please contact us on fundraising@mind-blmk.org.uk for more information.

On the Move running

Been asked to let you know about this
----
My work sponsor the MK marathon weekend & each year have a team called ‘On The Move’ running & fundraising for a couple of charities. This year the team will be raising money for local charity Harrys Rainbow & CALM (a mental health charity).

We have just launched our campaign to recruit next years On The Move team & I wanted to get in touch to see if any of the Redway Runners would like to take part? There’s lots of benefits in return for taking part, & we’ve even got Kelly Holmes joining the team this year, so hopefully that’s enticing! We’ve had an amazing response already (having only launched this week) & I wanted to see if any of your members would be interested in taking part?
Hope you don’t mind me getting in touch, I’ve loved joining the club & you sprang to mind instantly when we thought of local community groups to reach out to. I’ve included the link below so you can find out more.
Thanks for your time!
