In October, our favourite charity fundraiser was back and the team got to work dishing up some delicious delights for the Resolve Bake Off. We enjoyed Kinder Bueno cheesecake, victoria sponge, salted caramel cake and plenty of other treats. David was crowned the winner after his chocolate pumpkin cake went down a storm. In other news, Windows 7 prepares to wave goodbye and apprentice Oliver comes up to his one year workiversary. 
The perks of being an IT apprentice
It is approaching one year since Oliver walked through the doors at Resolve as a brand new apprentice, ready to get to grips with the world of IT. Over the course of the year he has passed exams, fixed numerous computers, won the Resolve Horse and been promoted. He won the Horse for being "innovative" and coming up with a new way to deal with computers that need repairing, and for achieving 95% in his most recent exam. Oliver took to the blog to explain what he has learnt over the past year and why he likes working in the IT industry.

How to spot a spam email checklist
Spam email creators are better than ever at designing emails that look legitimate, which means we need to get better at spotting a dodgy email before it is too late. Luckily, there is often a few tell-tale signs that the email is not what it seems. Usually the email address doesn't match the place it is claiming to be sent from and the greeting line will be quite vague. David has compiled all of his tips into a downloadable graphic that you can pop on your desk for reference next time you think you've received a spam email.

Goodbye Windows 7 in two months
On the 14th of January 2020, Microsoft will no longer support Windows 7. The operating system will still work, but no new patches will be released to protect the system from hackers finding insecurities. Remember Wannacry? That horrible ransomware attack that hit the NHS a few years ago. Well, that happened - in part - because people were using an old unsupported operating system. So, we'd highly recommend moving to Windows 10. Luke explains how on the blog.
