What we're working on...

Throughout the months of September and October, we have been hosting community input sessions and focus groups in support of the City of Milwaukee’s 5-Year HUD Consolidated Plan. In total, our outreach sessions have solicited input on CDBG funding priorities from more than 150 residents and professionals, and our community survey has been completed by more than 600 individuals. If you have not yet taken the survey or if you have a network that you can share the survey with, please do so by November 15. The survey is available at www.ConPlanMKE.org in English, Spanish and Hmong.

UEDA's Take Root Milwaukee program is partnering with Ald. Coggs & Stamper on their annual Housing Resource Fair taking place on November 23 at North Division High School. Attendees can connect with a variety of resources that can help them purchase a home, fix up a home, and keep a home. There will also be workshops on purchasing a city-owned home, finding home repair resources, and improving personal credit health. View details and invite your friends, family and colleagues via this facebook event.

On Friday, October 11 we hosted our final Emerging Topic Series event of 2019 - Mapping Prejudice: Visualizing Hidden Histories of Privilege. In partnership with Forward Community Investments and the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development we welcomed close to 70 people for a presentation on racial covenants and their use in housing development in Minneapolis, MN and cities across the United States. We also learned about local efforts to create a curriculum for middle and high school students that teaches the history of segregation in this country developed by Divided by Design MKE. Find a full recap with links to resources here.

We are hosting our final Diverse Dining meal of the year on Tuesday, December 10 at Antigua Latin Restaurant - a longtime Carnival Milwaukee food tasting donor. Stay tuned fore more details and a link for tickets. In the meantime, learn more about Diverse Dining here and view a video made at our last partnership meal here.
