Happy All Hallow’s Eve Saints!

On the weekend of our parish feast day, there are so many great things for us to participate in. Here is your definitive guide:

Today - Halloween: If you are trick or treating the Woodstock businesses, be sure to stop by All Saints where we will be giving out glow necklaces, candy and/or fruit snacks.

Friday - All Saints: All Saints Day is November 1. Though we transfer the holiday to the closest Sunday in our worship services, it still can be a day of remembrance. Along those lines, since Dia de los Muertos begins on Oct 31 and ends on Nov 2, you can check out some of the different ways to celebrate in Portland
here.

Saturday: Fall leaf raking party at the church from 9am to noon. We have tasks for all ages and abilities. Help us get the grounds looking great for our feast day and the bishop’s visit.

All Saints Sunday: We will have opportunities for honoring our departed and celebrating the Communion of Saints at both services. Worshippers will have the opportunity to light a candle in remembrance of loved ones. The 10:15 service will be a high mass with incense, followed by lunch in the Parish Hall (bring a salad to share if you can).

Also, our parish survey and pledge drive wrap up this week, so please complete and/or bring those with you by Sunday.

Looking forward to a great weekend with you all!

The Rev. Andria Skornik

It's Time To Fall Back: Daylight Saving Time Ends On November 3, 2019. On Sunday, November 3, 2019, most North Americans will mark the end of Daylight Saving Time (DST) by moving their clocks back an hour.
Check out these photos from the Halloween Processional & Party!
Convention 2019: We had a great time at convention last week. The resolution on Welcoming the Stranger passed, and we will be sharing more about related opportunities soon. Thank you to our delegates who represented our parish. Don't forget to check out this karaoke performance of Mother Andria with James Joiner from St Micheals and All Angels
All Saints Day Buffet: We invite you to join us for All Saints Day and Salad Buffet today after the 10:15 service. Folks who are newcomers to All Saints are invited to an orientation immediately following the celebration around 12:30. We will gather at the Woodstock end of the Parish Hall.  Presenters will welcome you, inform you about various ministries, ways to get involved, and take you on a tour of our amazing building.
Annual Stewardship Drive: It's not too late! The All Saints Vestry and Finance Committee thank you for your generous contributions in 2019. Please prayerfully consider what you are able to give financially in 2020 and complete your pledge card. You may drop it in the collection plate or mail into the Church Office. Brochures are also available in the pews and Narthex.
Fall Clean Up and Leaf Raking Party: This Saturday, November 2, 2019
The autumn leaves are falling. Join us for a leaf raking party to clean them up. All ages are welcome. If the weather is dry we can make some leaf piles for the kids to jump in before we stuff them into yard debris bags.

We also need help with the following: Pinning and covering soaker hoses; Putting Christmas lights on the tree outside the Parish Hall; Cleaning tree debris on Knight Street - leaf blowers would be helpful for this task. If you are available to assist on one of these tasks, please contact Michelle Waite.
Parish Survey - Please complete by November 1st: The All Saints' Vestry invites you to fill out the 2019 Parish Survey. Parish leaders want your feedback and ideas to help guide our church community forward. The survey asks a number of questions that range from your views on Sunday worship services, current and future ministries, community outreach and parish priorities for 2020 and beyond.

It will take 10 to 15 minutes to complete; survey responses are confidential unless you choose to submit your name. The Vestry’s goal is for 100% participation in the survey so that every member of All Saints has the opportunity to be heard. The results will be tabulated and reported to our parish in November.

To complete the survey, please click
here.

If you do not have Internet access, there are hard copies of the survey in the Narthex. If you need assistance, please contact the office or call 503-777-3829.

Thank you for your participation!
Gratitude Garland Project: This month we will be celebrating the month of Thanksgiving through a beautiful display of gratitude garland that will be tied to the fence facing Woodstock. To participate, please pick up your strip of fabric in the Narthex and write something you are thankful for on the back with a permanent marker. You may also cut your own strips of fabric at home. There will be a basket for completed strips, or you can tie them on the fence once the display is up. We will be inviting the wider community to participate as well. We hope to have our fence full of colorful fabric strips that represent and remind us of all that we have to be thankful for.

Do you have any spare fabric remnants in fall colors? Both patterns and solids are great! Please contact Cris in the office 503-777-3829 if you can help with this project.
Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer. It does not replace other means of prayer but adds depth and meaning to all prayer. Join us for group sessions on October 31st, November 7th and 14th (7:00pm to 8:30pm)

For more Information and Registration, please email

Adult Forum Series, “Becoming the Church Today:” We will continue with our series, "Becoming the Church Today,” presented by Terry Baker, Associate Professor of Philosophy and Rhetoric at Warner Pacific University.

Forum takes place on Sundays at 9:15 in the Parish Hall. Childcare is available. Grab some coffee and join the conversation!
Confirmation, Reception & Reaffirmation of Faith: Bishop Michael Hanley is going to be with us for services on the morning of Sunday, November 10. Please let Rev. Andria, know if you are interested in being confirmed or received in the Episcopal Church or reaffirming your faith. These rites are performed exclusively by bishops, and so our bishop’s visit provides an excellent opportunity. We will schedule a discussion session for preparation once we have a list of participants. Bishop Michael will join us as special forum guest, and there will be a cake reception after the 10:15 a.m. service.
Not So Supernova: On Saturday, November 9, at 7:00 p.m., come and bring your friends to enjoy a hilarious, heart-wrenching, soul-searching exploration in Shannon Milliman’s one-woman play. Life is about learning to love the people that drive you nuts! Donations accepted at the door. Click here for more information.
Social Justice and Advocacy Meeting: Nov 17 after the 10:15 service (11:45am) is our next Social Justice and Advocacy meeting. We will be discussing our first initiatives and upcoming opportunities for action. All are welcome to attend. For more info Mother Andria.
Share the Harvest with Lewis School: This holiday season, we are partnering with Lewis Elementary to help families who are financially struggling to be able to purchase their Thanksgiving meal. If you would like to participate, please take a card or cards from the Narthex and bring gift card(s) back (noting the store and the amount) on or before November 17 when Principal Deanne Froehlich will be with us to receive the cards on behalf of the families. Please keep the family with whom you are sharing in your prayers on Thanksgiving or in the month of November.
Coffee Hour Hosts Needed: Be sure to greet and thank our friendly Coffee Hour hosts when you stop by for coffee and snacks after the 10:15 service. First Sundays of the month you will find Donna Woodruff and Geri Dash. Second Sundays are managed by Laurie McDowell and Mary Earl. Third Sundays include Jude Leahy and Nancy Partick—who is retiring from Coffee Hour Ministry. More on that in the next paragraph. Fourth Sundays currently have one host, Carol Cannon.

Many thanks to Nancy Patrick for her years of Coffee Hour service! She is looking forward to enjoying some well-deserved time off on third Sundays.

Our friendly Coffee Hour hosts do a wonderful job of making sure we have coffee and snacks after the 10:15 service every Sunday. They also clean up and do dishes, leaving the kitchen ready to go for the next users. We are currently seeking two new hosts—one for the third Sunday and one for the fourth Sunday. Training is provided. If those Sundays don’t work for you, you are still welcome to join a team on the Sunday of your choosing. Please contact Laurie McDowell, if this is a ministry you find interesting, email Laurie
here.
St Francis Closet:  We are in dire need of men's average-sized pants or jeans. Got an old sleeping bag or an extra blanket? Is your sock drawer overstuffed?

As October brings cooler nights and rainy weather, let’s remember that freezing temperatures are not far off and many who are homeless will struggle to keep warm. Let’s help them out. Please see Deacon Kathleen about donating items to the St. Francis Closet. Donations are needed year-round.
