Committee Assignments - 2019
This week, Council had its annual organizational meeting. At this meeting, each Councillor is assigned a portfolio (such as transportation, planning, or priorities and finance). Members of City Council regularly meet at committee meetings to discuss issues such as policies, bylaws, the City budget and major projects to be undertaken by City departments.

I am pleased to announce that I will be representing Ward 6 and all Calgarians at the following committees:

-Transportation and Transit (Chair)
-Event Centre Assessment Committee (Chair)
-Green Line LRT (Vice-Chair)
--Calgary Municipal Land Corporation
-Community and Protective Services
-Gas, Power & Telecommunications
-Priorities and Finance
-Calgary Parking Authority
-Calgary Economic Development
-Calgary Film Centre
-Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund

WATCH: I am pleased to be named the Chair of the Transportation & Transit Committee, and the Vice Chair of the Green Line LRT Committee.

I look forward to working with my peers to ensure that the transportation needs of Calgarians are addressed.

Road Improvements: Sarcee Trail and Richmond Road

Road improvements are coming to Sarcee Trail and Richmond Road!

By improving the Sarcee Trail and Richmond Road intersection, we're making sure people can continue to travel through this area efficiently, after the Southwest Calgary Ring Road opens in fall 2021.

Here are the improvements to this area of Calgary, after the ring road opens:
-Adds one northbound and one southbound lane on Sarcee Trail, between Optimist Park and the Transportation Utility corridor
-Improves traffic signal timing at the intersection
-Widens existing pathway along the south side of the intersection

Schedule
Q4 2019: Complete design
Q1 2020: Tender and award contract
Q2 2020: Begin construction
Q4 2020: Complete construction

Budget approved: $7 million.

Remembrance Day Observance
Please join your neighbours and the King’s Own Calgary Regiment on Monday, November 11, 2019 for the eighth annual Remembrance Day observance at Battalion Park. Originally named Camp Sarcee in 1915, Battalion Park commemorates the soldiers who trained here for the trench warfare of World War I. Join us at this important ceremony and participate in a community moment of silence to reflect on the sacrifices made by the brave Canadian Armed Forces.

Advocacy: Catholic High School in Ward 6

Over the last few months, the Ward 6 Office and I have been advocating for a new Catholic High School in West Calgary. We’ve raised the issue with our local MLA’s, school board trustees from both the Calgary Catholic School District and the Calgary Board of Education, and Bishop McGrattan of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary.
