Dear Friends,
We have been busy compiling peer mentor interviews and demonstration videos of independence skills. However, this is not the extent of More Than Walking's mission. We envision these interviews and demos being incorporated into an online independence skill video course for every level of spinal cord injury that includes Physical / Occupational Therapy commentary on the most complex skills everyone should learn during rehab. Therapist analysis includes precautions, key muscles, activity sub-steps, and progression strategies - geared to a mixed audience of therapy practitioners, students, patients, and caregivers.
I am happy to announce that, after completing the first two videos of our pilot C7-8 Quadriplegia course, Jessica and I are working with Erin Lampron, Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Quinnipiac University, to continue course video production. Erin was my inpatient physical therapist when I was at Gaylord Hospital in 2006, and I was one of her first quadriplegic patients at the time, so it is a great joy to now be collaborating to teach foundational independence skills to others. We are excited and hope these videos can really show what's possible, especially to those around the world who are not yet familiar with spinal cord injury!
You can see my latest bed mobility demo below that will be analyzed in Erin's future commentary. Also, check out MeLissa's latest exercise demo video using a battle rope, Luis's story of commitment to his family despite injury, and Jaiber's first wheelchair to bed transfer demonstration!
If you agree that our stories can change lives, help us build momentum for 2020 by joining our awesome teams of volunteer peer mentors and monthly supporters, or recommending our cause to businesses that might be interested in sponsoring or matching donations (download e-mail size PDF here). Thank you for your support and belief in what we can accomplish together.
Cheers!
