In my Calvin-Academy class recently we had a discussion on the importance of having a purpose and a vision for your life.
Reflecting on my own personal "big dreams" afterward, I realized how easily one can compromise and lose sight of your long term goals.
We can talk about how we are going to get a better job next year but when it comes time to enrol for a course to ensure we are better skilled for a better job....we hear the endless excuses and faulting our poor financial circumstances for holding us back.
In large organisations I have worked for in the past, I have often come across the following:
When there is the opportunity to step up and make a difference in our department, we will talk about this Vision we have for our department in the meetings but when it comes to the implementation of that vision (when all the talk is over), we first check who must do all the hard work and what immediate rewards we will get personally.
Seldom do we look at the good of one's vision as being enough to get it done. Hard work means it is up to me to roll up my sleeves and invest the time, money and effort - it takes a personal commitment to succeed. The impossible will only become possible once we are 100% committed and when we refuse to give up on our dreams.
Unfortunately immediate gratification is what most people want and success does not work that way.
Life will reward those who have studied and gained the knowledge required and then put that knowledge into action through consistantly working hard at it and not giving up.
I want to encourage you to join me and try to make a difference in whatever we do. Remind yourself that you DO have a career goal worthy of your time and effort.
Improve your computer software skills and personal development skills through continuous learning.
If you just focus on these 2 learning areas then it will start to open doors and opportunities in your career.
Two things will start to happen:
1. You will become competent to work faster and more effectively and 2. Training in soft skills (entrepreneurship courses) will give you the right attitude and motivated self-talk to achieve more and more each day.
Technology is here to stay.
Whether we are business owners or employees, we have to take courses to learn Specialist Software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and specialist Graphic Design products like Corel and also Adobe’s Photoshop and Illustrator – it is time we adapt AND grow!!
