Newsletter November 2019

Invest in ME Research is an independent UK charity campaigning for and facilitating biomedical research into myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).
More details of the charity are here.

Welcome to a November newsletter.

A Community and ME

A condition such as ME presents not only a challenge to the patient who receives the diagnosis, nor only to the family where a child or partner contracts the illness. It tests the values and the fabric of a community. How does the community react?
The reactions and experiences describe how prepared or willing it is to overcome the challenges and support the patient with ME.

For future use the charity has produced a booklet - WE - A Community and ME.

The idea behind the booklet is to provide an easy to read guide to demonstrate how people with ME are preceived by elements in the community and the issues that arise and an overview of how ME affects a community.

Thanks to funding from an Awards for All grant Invest in ME Research have been able to have this booklet printed that has been produced by the team.

The distribution of the booklets has begun and are available to be distributed to anyone who will find them useful when dealing with various interactions with different people or organisations - subject to stock and charity resources.

Norwich Science Festival Week Event

The charity recently held its Update on ME event in Norwich on 25th october.
Professor Simon Carding from Quadram Institute presented on the latest research funded by IiMER and showed clearly the promise and potential of the research being performed by the increasing research base there.

Dr Penny Powell from University of East Anglia (UEA) discussed the new PhD post which is being jointly funded by IIMER and UEA.

Richard Taylor from Norfolk and Waveney CCG spoke about the new clinical fellowship programme being developed.
Anna Louise Midsem gave a talk about the European ME Alliance and about pacing for patients.

We think the event was a great success and hope to repeat this again.

European ME Group Workshops

The charity has arranged  two workshops for November.

The meetings will see a new meeting of the European ME Research Group (EMERG) and the next meeting for the European ME Clinicians Council (EMECC).

The two meetings will overlap thus bringing leading European researchers and clinicians together.
