GREETINGS FROM TOGO!

A CLEAN WATER PROJECT AND A CHILDREN’S HEALTH CLUB PROGRAM

Sometimes God opens doors you never expected. Since our return to Togo last year, God has opened a door to a new cooperation with Water Charity and Sawyer Water Filters. We are working together to launch a program for a clean water project out of local churches, with plans for a children’s club curriculum which teaches health and hygiene, run by local churches. In June, we did an outreach event in the village of Nimagna, just outside of Lomé. We tested a pilot version of a children’s presentation on clean water, and concluded with a tie-in to a Gospel presentation about how Jesus is living water. When we had finished, the Water Charity team did a presentation on how to use and maintain the simple water filters donated by Sawyer. Then they distributed enough filters for the entire village.
The project was done in conjunction with a Sunday school shelter, our ongoing project to provide space for children’s ministries in local churches, and with a children’s evangelism event. These projects together have made an enormous impact in that village. Pastor Kpakpo, pastor of the Temple Nazareth Assembly of God, reports that the number of children attending has tripled since the events. Several mothers who were present at the water presentation have come to the church and accepted Christ as Savior. And after the church facilitated distribution of water filters to the entire village, their reputation and visibility in the village has been elevated, giving them further opportunity to be agents of change in their community!

The children’s club program launch is still a few months out, as the materials are still in development. Thank you for your donations that helped make this project possible and keep praying with us. The plan is to replicate this project in villages across Togo, and West Africa.
TEAMS, TRAINING, OUTREACHES AND SHELTERS

This year to date, we’ve welcomed two teams from the United States: a team of students from Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and a team of adults from Washington State. The teams have built five Sunday school shelters in Togo, and participated in a number of children’s outreach events. In addition to the five shelters we’ve had hands-on participation this year, your donations have allowed the construction of scores more, not only in Togo, but in Burkina Faso, Benin, and Cote d’Ivoire.
Our ministry is not limited to just Togo, nor even to West Africa. In July, Phil taught at a Children’s Ministry conference in East Africa for children’s ministry volunteers from both Kenya and Tanzania. Nearly 1,000 volunteers attended, and on the second day, while other missionaries continued with seminars for the attendees, Phil taught a breakout session with national-level Children’s Ministry directors from four different countries. As a result, he was approached by leaders from Uganda, a country without any AG missionaries, and asked to help with the development of their national children’s ministry.
PRAYER NEEDS:

• Please continue to pray for open doors for the clean water project, and for the curriculum to fall into place so that it is usable soon.

• Please pray for wisdom. We are inundated with requests for help and we often must make difficult decisions about where and how to best engage.

• Please pray for safety. Just last week, we had a small accident on the roads. Nobody was hurt, and it could have been far worse. It is just a small example of why we need your prayers.
