  Safeguarding Children Workshop
PS4L's Laila Waleed and Yumon Masri facilitated a three hour workshop for PS4L coaches in the north about safeguarding children in education and sports. This workshop was in collaboration with Coaches Across Continents (CAC) and focused on how children are treated in communities.

The workshop looked at the various types of abuse children face, these include; physical, verbal, sexual and emotional. The trainers themselves discussed the cases of child abuse that they have personally witnessed in schools and trainings. They were then taught practically how to address these issues and find sustainable resolves. CAC created 5 different activities for children that can be used to create solutions, discussions and awareness on the abuses that they face.

At the end of the workshop, the trainers signed the PS4L Child Policy. This is an important step for safeguarding.

PS4L's Tulkarem Football Team - 3 straight wins
We are pleased to announce the achievements of PS4L's Tulkarem Team, led by PS4L Coaches Yumon Masri and Momen Masri.

The team achieved a well deserved result of 2-0 against Kafr Na3meh at the start of the month 4.10.2019 and won 3-2 against Nablus on Thursday 24.10.201. This means they have won 3 out of 4 games played.

We are so proud of the PS4L Tulakarem girls team of their skills on and off the field and hope they continue to achieve great results for the rest of the season.

The team are training and working hard under the coaching of one of our most prominent coaches Yumon and Momen. So we want to thank them both for their commitment and support.

PS4L Trainers Areen Daher  and Fadi Abu Kaff

PS4L trainer Areen Daher took part in the 3rd annual United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) workshop for the Line up Live up (LULU) training.

On September 2017, UNODC and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (WCDCAS), started to train sports coaches to implement the newly developed Line Up Live Up (LULU) curriculum for youth crime and drug use prevention. LULU training offers coaches and social workers to use sport as a vehicle of social and personal skills development, by addressing individual crime and drug risk factors. Sport also engages at-risk youth to build their resilience to violence, drug use and crime.

We are so proud to be able to apply this methodology at PS4L and we are so proud of Areen for attending this training.

PS4L trainer Fadi Abu Kaff is climbing up the football training certification pathway, he received his level B certificate in football coaching from the Asian Football Confederation and the Palestinian Football Federation.

The course for level B is designed to educate Coaches in the advanced techniques and skills of the game, and to help them develop a better understanding of individual or groups of players, tactics and the mental requirements of the game. It requires trainees to undergo a 20 day course containing both theoretical and practical activities.

Fadi is an exceptional player in the Palestinian football league, a physical education teacher in a school and PS4L trainer for girls in Sour Baher.

This is an impressive achievement Fadi, well done!

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence
“Together Against Violence”
More work was done towards the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence Joint Campaign. Tamara Awartani, PS4L Director, presented at Sharek Youth forum on 20th October regarding the work PS4L will do for the 16 day Gender Campaign.

Through Sport PS4L aims to raise awareness of gender topics, specifically, the roles each gender is prescribed within the family and the community. We do so by reflecting the theme of the activities with life skills needed in day to day life.
The sports event will target 100 youth from the 16 schools in the Youth Empowerment and Protection Project through Gender Interventions in Jerusalem. This event will take place within the 16 days of activism, in cooperation with  SHAREK youth forum and in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) funded by the Belguim Government.

The aim of the event is to put in place the work that the social workers were taught in the Training of Trainers (ToT) that took place in August together with PS4L trainers. It will focus on  100, 11-13 year olds girls and boys, and will involve them taking part in sporting activities set up in different stations in an inclusive environment, to develop their life skills, and raise their awareness on their rights, discussions and reflections around early marriage.

Stay tuned on our event details to attend and support the 16 days campaign, which should take place at the end of November.
English Education Through Sports
Holly and Tamara two of our volunteers of the European Solidarity Corps programs have started working in the boys and girls school in Am’ari Camp. One month ago they started at the girls school where they started giving English lessons and sport activities. The sport activities which they are implementing are the ones which were taught during PS4L and Coaches Across Continents training. Those activities teach the pupils life skills through sports and promote an inclusive environment. Think of boosting confidence and gender equality. The group of 30 girls are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They cannot wait to improve the confidence of the girls and make them eager to become more aware of the roles they can have in society.

Recently the volunteers started with the same program at the boys school. The program at the boys school will be similar as in the girls school, raising awareness on gender equality and roles in the society and developing their life skills through sports, promoting an inclusive environment.

An activity will also take place as part of the 16 days Campaign, stay tuned.
