A blessed visit by Bishop Manasseh from Rwanda
We were greatly blessed to have our beloved friend, Manasseh Gahima, Bishop of Gahini Province in Rwanda, visiting with us for a week, ministering in Word and healing, praying with us, seeing our city and our seminary, Nashotah House, attending a Chicago Master Singers rehearsal and just being with us in close-knit fellowship. We already miss him as he has returned safely to his home and his many ministries, and we continue to pray for God's richest blessings on his work for the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.
DEVELOPING A CHRISTIAN FAITH TESTIMONY
If you are a member of our Sunday evening congregation and have been working on your testimony, please let Fr. Alan know when you would like to share it during Evensong so he can plan the service.
SUNDAY EVENING CANCELLATION
As many of you know, the Chicago Master Singers will be performing their Fall concerts on Friday, November 8th and Sunday, November 10th at the Divine Word Chapel. Therefore we will NOT have our usual Sunday evening service on the 10th.  We hope you will all come to hear the Master Singers in the beautiful program of sacred music.  You can order tickets on the website:  www.chicagomastersingers.org. If you have never attended a CMS concert you are eligible for a 50% discount on tickets by using the code "WELCOME."
Hymnals Provide Deep, Theologically Rich Worship
As hymnals fade, theology also suffers. The rich repository of religious wisdom contained in hymns will be lost. The old-fashioned language of hymns may strike some as unusual, but their text teaches the Christian faith far better than most of the praise choruses that dominate contemporary services. Old hymns were carefully crafted with theology at the forefront. Traditional hymns present doctrine clearly and beautifully convey the gospel story of saving grace.

On a larger scale, how do worship screens affect worship? Are they like other technology—truly neutral, beneficial when used well and deleterious when ill applied? We still have the same worship, they say. We simply added the screens! Instead of people looking down at their books, now they’re looking up at the wall—everything else is exactly the same!

Maybe so. But probably not.  Read more...
Next Wednesday Evening Cancellation
NOTE: There will be no Evening Prayer and Eucharist on Wednesday, November 20th. This is Fr. Alan's monthly obligation downtown in Chicago.
