Happy Thanksgiving!

Please remember to check the calendar on the church website for the most up-to-date scheduling information.
Often, we associate the Pilgrims with the tradition of Thanksgiving in America, but Thanksgiving as we know it today did not start until much later in America’s history, and it took a woman and two U. S. Presidents to create this uniquely American holiday.  Visit the church website or click here for more details.

“Christmas Here and Now”

DeBows is hosting a free Christmas Concert, “Christmas Here and Now” on Sunday, December 8 at 3 pm.  The concert will be led by Peter Jay in the sanctuary, followed by refreshments in Fellowship Hall. Celtic recording artist Fiona Tyndall will be singing. This will be a family friendly chance to enjoy favorite Christmas songs and hymns and get into the spirit of the holiday season. If there are any children interested in singing or Celtic dance for this concert, please contact Grayce Armstrong by email at music@debowsumc.org.

“The Season of the Nativity”

The Libby Prison Minstrels will present a free Christmas Concert, “The Season of the Nativity” on Sunday, December 15 at 2 pm.  Following the concert will be a time of fellowship with soup & Christmas cookies.  DeBows praise band member, Jim Kramer, also plays with the Libby Prison Minstrels.

Lessons & Carols Service
Sunday, December 22

At 9:30am on December 22, DeBows will present a Lessons & Carols Worship Service.  This is a service where scripture passages and hymns complement each other to help bring the story and message of Christmas to life.  If you would like to participate in the choir for this service, please contact Grayce and watch the church calendar for rehearsal times.

DeBows in Mission
Remembering
Those That Serve

As we enter the holiday season, it is hard not to think of our service men and women serving abroad, who will not be able to make it home to be with their families.  The DeBows Outreach Committee is asking anyone who wishes to participate, to purchase or make a Christmas ornament or decoration and get it to the church (unwrapped) no later than Sunday, November 17.  You may add a card if you wish.  All items received will be sent to DeBows' own Zach Cregle, who is serving in Afghanistan.  Zach will distribute the ornaments and decorations to his unit to brighten up their living quarters.  Due to the destination and the hazards of shipping, all items must be unbreakable.

"Thank You" for helping us reach out to those that serve and reminding them that they are appreciated and are in our prayers.
Wednesday Bible Study

The Wednesday Bible Study is led by Pastor Denise and meets from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM in Fellowship Hall. There is an optional prayer time in the sanctuary at 11:15 AM, prior to the bible study.  Everyone is welcome to attend and may join the study at anytime.  The current topic of study is the Gospel of Mark.

Following is a list of fundraisers for the remainder of 2019. Order forms and other pertinent information is available on the table outside of Fellowship Hall.

Grocery Shopping Cards

Every week during Fellowship Time, you have the opportunity to purchase grocery store shopping cards for either ShopRite or Stop & Shop.  This is a convenient way to pay for the food you buy at the grocery store and at the same time support the ministries of DeBows UMC.  The church makes 5% of all shopping cards sold. You may see Sue Hayward or Karen Stillwell to purchase the shopping cards on any Sunday.

2nd & 4th
Monday Each Month

The next Food Pantry distribution is
Monday, November 25
The DeBows Food Pantry is open on the 2nd & 4th Monday each month from 6:00-8:00pm.  If you would like to volunteer time to support this ministry, please see the sign-up sheet outside of Fellowship Hall.  You may contact Deb Cregle for more information.
DeBows is once again participating in the Holiday Gift Drive in support of the Children’s Home Society of Trenton.  Names of children, with ages and suggested gift items are available from Tom Hornak. If you are participating, please place gifts in a shopping bag (unwrapped) and bring them to church no later than Sunday, December 8. They will be delivered to the Children’s Home Society during the following week. They may be the only gifts some of these children will receive this Christmas. This is one way we share the love of Christ during this very special time of year with those less fortunate than ourselves.  Click HERE to see more information about the Children’s Home Society.

Christmas Poinsettias

You may order poinsettias starting on Sunday, November 17.  Order forms will be available on the bulletin stand outside of the sanctuary.  You may place completed order forms in the collection plate or give them directly to Anita Chichester.  Each poinsettia is $4.00 and comes in a 6” pot.  The poinsettias will be used to decorate the sanctuary starting on Sunday, December 15.  They may be taken home after the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.  All orders must be submitted and paid for by Sunday, December 8.
Event Cancellation Alerts
As the weather turns colder, and have already seen our first snow flurry, we are reminded that winter is approaching and the possibility of snow and unsafe travel conditions increases. If weather adversely impacts any church related event, alerts will be posted on the church website and the calendar will be updated.  A special email distribution will also be sent out to notify people of any event cancellations etc.
