"Christmas Drive 2019"

It doesn't seem that long ago that we were gearing up for Christmas last year...but at the same time so much has happened within the last year that it blows me away.  We found a suitable house and headquarters for Rocsana's Hope in San Lucas, Sacatepequez, Guatemala, signed the lease on that house, spent two months preparing it, then we actually received our first girl in April.  Now we are up to four girls rescued and we are just getting started.  Within a few months we expect to add more girls.  We are so excited about the growth we have seen and cannot wait to see what God will do next.

Note- If you do not see the pictures included there is a link at the top of your email that says "External Images are not displayed: Display Now"  Make sure to click on that "Display Now" link at the top of your email to see all the pictures.
The Heart and Soul of Rocsana's Hope is Saving Young Girls
The girls that come to Rocsana’s Hope are at risk of being exploited by groups of people such as gangs, human traffickers, houses of prostitution, etc.

The girls are at risk because they have grown up and aged out as orphans which means that when they turn 18 and have to leave their orphanage, they have no family they can go to.  There is no help or assistance from the government and so many of them end up on the streets.  At this point they are the most vulnerable.  We now have four girls and below you see pictures of their first days with us.  At first, there is fear and trepidation, but after they have been with us for even just a few days, their entire countenance changes because they realize that, maybe for the first time in their lives, they have real hope for the future.  That is what we do.

New Girl Received!!
The Opportunity for Another Future With Hope

Before Karelyn made her first visit to Rocsana’s Hope, she was unsure about coming here.  But it did not take her long during that first visit to see that this is a place that not only is going to give her a chance at a brighter future, but a place where she is going to receive love and acceptance that she has not had.

Karelyn is the second young lady that has come to us from a government orphanage here in Guatemala.  If you will remember back to last year when Jeff and I were here to sign the lease on the house, we came on the governments' radar and they asked us to come and tell them what we were doing.
As we shared our story and the plan for the ministry, a lady named Myrna, who was in the meeting that day and is second in charge of all of the government orphanages in the entire country of Guatemala, began to weep after about 10 minutes.  She told us later that she had been praying for two years that God would send someone to do what we are now doing here in Guatemala.
She told us a story of a young lady who left on her 18th birthday and was dead within a week because she was caught up by people who tried to use her as a prostitute.  She refused and was killed.  Myrna told us that ever since then she had been praying that someone would come and help these girls that are most at risk.
She and her office now works with us and has now brought us this second young lady who is already beginning to adapt to her new home.  She cried the first day but since has really started to blossom.  She sees the other girls and how happy they are and she is just jumping right in and we are seeing joy in her face every day.
Pray for Karelyn as we begin the process of planning her future and help her with her past.
Darling and Diana Receive Course

Completion Diplomas
The city of San Lucas, Sacatepequez here in Guatemala offers free “basic skills” courses that young people can participate in and graduate from.  They learn a specific skill that helps them toward a broader goal of learning a skill or a trade that they can actually translate into a career that will generate income and enable them to make a living.

One of the cornerstones of our program is to help each and every girl get an education that they can turn into a career or a good job, or learn a trade that will give them the same opportunities.  We have been blessed with a wonderful Guatemalan family, Selvin and Lucky Herrera, who have lived their entire lives in the San Lucas and greater Guatemala City area.  Because of this, they are aware of a number of class offerings and learning opportunities that we can offer to our girls for them to participate in and learn a trade or a skill, even if in the end it becomes a secondary skill that they have, they can still have that in their repertoire of knowledge that can help them make a living.  Many of these classes are free and offered by the communities that they are in, such as here in San Lucas.
Both Darling and Diana have completed  their first round of courses and have earned certificates of completion.  For Darling, her course was what we would call Baking 101, or in Guatemala it is called “Panaderia”.  In her class, she has learned the basics of baking regular bread, sweet bread, and various basic pastries and cookies.  She has already started the next class that will teach her more advanced skills in the same area.  Diana’s class was how to do acrylic nails including how to apply them, sculpting, shaping, and painting them.  She has a real knack for beauty types of things such as hair and nails, and there is definitely a market for that down here, especially where we are located which is close to Guatemala City and Antigua. She too has already started the next class for more advanced learning in the same areas.

GivingTuesday harnesses the generosity of millions of people around the world to support the causes they believe in.

Celebrated on the Tuesday following U.S. Thanksgiving, and fueled by the power of social media and collaboration, GivingTuesday inspires millions of people across the globe to show up and give back to causes and issues that matter to them. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet.

Our goal for this year is absolutely God-sized and the need is great.  Our facility is located just outside the capital city of Guatemala and we have already begun taking in at-risk girls. We have secured a fantastic facility for our needs, however, it needs a lot of TLC. We have set a goal for this year’s Giving Tuesday to raise $150,000 in order to complete this work. These funds will allow us to completely remodel the home, fully furnish it and make improvements to the land. We will be able to fully equip an on-site classroom with computers and learning stations for every girl and purchase the necessary vehicles we will need to accommodate 20 girls at any one time. For more information about these projects, feel free to visit our project site at http://bit.ly/guat-improvements.

By giving back with what you have been blessed with, you can make a real difference in the lives of a forgotten group of young ladies who might otherwise have no hope for their futures!

GivingTuesday takes place on December 3, 2019 this year.  Pray now about how the Lord will lead you to help Rocsana’s Hope and be inspired to invite others to be a part of a very special day and a chance to give back.

We have also set a goal to raise $1,000 to purchase furniture for our living room for the girls to enjoy movie night several times a week and to use as a place for meetings and relaxation.  We have been here so far for 9 months but have not had the extra money to buy any furniture for our living room yet so we have decided to make that a part of our Christmas Drive this year.  You can contribute to this by going to this short abbreviated link to give to all or a part of the $1,000 goal:

RH Living Room Campaign

This will take you to a secure site within the website of Rocsana’s Hope where you can complete your secure gift online specifically for the living room furniture.
