Dear Phoenix Modern Community,

It's hard to believe that November is already here. With our beautiful weather and festivals and celebrations all over the Valley, it is my favorite time to live in Arizona. We had great participation with Spirit Week, and it was a fun way to kick off this festive season.

In our studios, we have continued to explore the theme of paying attention to our world. By cultivating the skill of attentiveness, children will become increasingly mindful and careful of their actions' impact on their environment and on others. One way that you can support this at home is by supporting your child's capacity for empathy. For Families: 5 Tips for Cultivating Empathy from the Making Caring Common Project out of Harvard's Graduate School for Education offers concrete research-based tips on modeling and discussing empathy and care with your child (https://mcc.gse.harvard.edu/resources-for-families/5-tips-cultivating-empathy).

If you'd like to become more involved in supporting our program, we have several opportunities that have been added to the "We Need Volunteers" section below, including helping to plan our Gratitude Potluck or hosting a class at Phoenix Modern. AZ Children’s Business Fair - Saturday, November 9, 10:00-1:00 - Arcadia Park - Check out the startups of young entrepreneurs around the valley, including a few from Phoenix Modern!

Veterans Day - Monday, November 11 - School will be closed in honor of Veterans Day.

Picture Day - Thursday, November 21 - Say cheese! Duke Photography, a local studio, will be on campus taking individual and class photos.

Gratitude Potluck - Friday, November 22, 4:00 - Join us for our Gratitude Potluck! Location is TBD. Stay tuned for an Evite with the details.

Thanksgiving Break - Wednesday, November 27 to Friday November 29 - School will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. 

Exhibition Week - Monday, December 2 to Friday, December 6 - Join us for our session two exhibitions! Stay tuned for more details from your child's guide.

Winter Break - Monday, December 23 to Friday, January 3 - School will be closed for winter break.

Calling all Experts!
We know that many of you have incredible skills to share with our community! If you are an artist, musician, yogi, coder, chef, chess wizard, awesome human, and would like to teach an extracurricular class for our children or greater community, please let jessica@phoenixmodern.org know. We'd love your help in expanding our program options.

Are lunch and recess your favorite times of day?
We are seeking volunteers to help with lunch and recess duty from 12:00-1:00. Ideally, volunteers would be able to come on a regular basis, on whatever day(s) you are available. If you are interested in this opportunity, please reach out to Operations Director, Charlie Kaplan, at charles@phoenixmodern.org.
