Evolution of M2M Communications

Machine to Machine Communication (better known as M2M) is an integral part of the Internet of Things (IoT). While it got popular attention recently, M2M is a well over half a century mature subject. What is M2M and how is it related to IoT? How did M2M communication evolve in the last few decades? How did M2M communication suddenly become economical and viable for consumer-grade applications? What are the recent advances in this space and what possibilities do they open? This speech focuses on answering the above questions and further dive into details such as modern techniques, protocols and standards in the M2M space. Also, it will provide some insights on how IoT and M2M communication is relevant to various sectors such as industrial automation, infrastructure management, fleet/asset management, entertainment industry etc.
