We are thrilled to release our Fall 2019 issue, with five divergent pieces that bridge themes of personal history, spirituality, and the uncanny.
Please consider donating to Culturework’s fundraiser by visiting our page with Public Service Artists Guild. Your contribution will keep the website live through 2020. Our growing community is committed to producing cultural narratives that urge us to connect, consider, and participate in change.
This issue is one example. Thank you!
We begin with a sensory journey through “Mother Appetite,” a series of paintings and sculptures by Jonathan Torres. Similar narratives of transformation and instinct surface in our interview with artist and illustrator Jia Sung, while “Letter from a Friend: A Reading List” serves as grounding reminder of hope and balance in a dystopian information age. “Notes on Homemaking,” an original nonfiction piece, meanders through a personal reverie on nurturing, kinship, and the pain and pleasure of vulnerability. Finally, Diana Ayala-Carrillo reveals human experiences of migration, stillness, loss, and place in “pillow talk for the paperless,” a poem and exhibition review.
Wishing you imagination and purpose in this season of transitions,
